Churches, museums and shops near you holiday home in Haute-Garonne
Your holiday letting is the perfect base for a day trip to Toulouse, the capital of Haute-Garonne and the Midi-Pyrénées region. Visit the Saint-Etienne cathedral, the 16th century Pont-Neuf and the largest Roman church in Europe, the Saint Sernin Basilica. Or go to the Saint Raymond archaeological museum and Cité de l’Espace theme park. Toulouse is also a great city for shopping with a Southern French but also Spanish atmosphere on the street terraces and tapas bars. Enjoy local delicacies such a AOC wine Froton, purple garlic, duck’s liver and cassoulet.
In southern Haute-Garonne, Saint-Just de Valcabrère basilica and bastide Carbonne are definitely worth a visit.
Walking and cycling in Haute-Garonne
You will find an abundance of nature around you gite. A walk or cycling trip through the hills of Comminges will bring you to Saint-Gaudens and to the cathedral in medieval Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges. In the Frontonnais region you are surrounded by vineyards and orchards. One of the most important routes to Santiago de Compostela goes through Haute-Garonne. Walking route GR10 crosses the Pyrenees from east to west. Along the canal du Midi, which is on the Unesco World heritage list, runs a bicycle path on the old towpath.

In the most southern point of Hautes-Garonne are some of the highest peaks of the Pyrenees with as highest point Pic de Perdiguère (3222m). Here are the ski areas Peyragudes, Superbagnères and Le Mourtis.
Water sports in Haute-Garonne
The Garonne River, the Canal des Deux Mers and the Canal de Garonne are perfect spots for boating, canoeing and kayaking. In summer the Convivencia music festival takes place on the water. Swimming, windsurfing, paddle boating is possible on Lake Saint -Ferréol. The rivers Ariège, Volp and Lèze are ideal for fishing for e.g. carp. In the Pyrenees, close to the Spanish border, run the rivers Pique and Lys. Spectacular places to go rafting and canyoning. Relax at the thermal waters of spa town Luchon.
