The French writer George Sand lived in Nohant-Vic castle and entertained guests here including Chopin, Liszt and Balzac. Visit the museum dedicated to her life in La Châtre. Sand very much loved the romantic town Gargilesse-Dampierre which also attracted many painters.

Start a bike ride from your vacation home on the route ‘Loire à Vélo’, for example through the Creuse and Brenne valleys.This nature area is the habitat of migratory birds, purple herons, dragonflies and terrapins. You can walk, horse ride and fish in the many lakes for instance at Rosnay. Pleasant walking areas are also Boischaut-Sud and Champagne Berrichonne. Lac de Chambon, also known as Lac d’Eguzon is an ideal spot for swimming, windsurfing, canoeing, boating, water skiing and paddle boating.

Saint-Marcel has thermae, an amphitheatre and an ancient temple of the Gallo-Roman city Argentomagus dating from the 2nd century which has been excavated. In the museum you will find objects from prehistory and an archaeological crypt. Check out the basilica of Neuvy-Saint-Sépulchre on the pilgrims route to Santiago de Compostela. This copy of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
