Parc National de Mercantour with its 15th century Tende is an excellent starting point, the pretty town of Saorge, the Vésubie valley and Breil-sur-Roya, also a good spot for kayaking and rafting. Beautiful are also Gorge du Cians with eagle nest Beuil, mountain peaks Col de Turini and L’Authion. The edges of the Gorges du Loup and 9th-century town Gourdon formed the backdrop for the film Les Misérables.
