Île-de-France
Paris, the capital, is a must in Ile de France. Here you can visit the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Sacre Coeur Basilica, the Eiffel Tower, the Pantheon, the lively Latin Quarter and Montmartre, the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay. Also the Rodin Museum, the Picasso Museum and the Musée Marmottan with Monet's works are worth a visit. From the Centre Georges Pompidou you can enjoy stunning views of Paris.
Take the opportunity of your stay to enjoy a tarte tatin, or drink a glass of wine at the Café de Flore or the Deux Magots, hangout of Sartre, Camus and Simone De Beauvoir at one time. Browse the streets around the Place des Vosges and on Sunday visit Luxembourg Parc like many Parisians do. Stroll on the Ile Saint-Louis and the banks of the Seine. Did you know that Paris has miles of bike paths and that many of the streets are closed to car traffic on Sundays? You can also go cycling to Pere Lachaise cemetery, the Bois de Boulogne and Parc de La Villette. If you like antiques, do not miss the flea market in Saint-Ouen or the one of Vanves.
Children will love to spend a day at Disneyland Paris. The region also has 70,000 hectares of forest and numerous castles like Versailles, Vaux-le-Vicomte, Marly-le-Roi and Saint-Germain-en-Laye. The painters Sisley, Ruisdael and Hobbema found much inspiration in the small villages around Fontainebleau: Moret-sur-Loing and Barbizon. Here you can make beautiful walks in the Rambouillet forest or natural parks Chevreuse and Vexin. The beautiful village La Roche-Guyon with its fortified tower is located in the Vexin. You can visit the castle of La Rochefoucauld family and the Garden of organic farming. Also discover the medieval city of Provins, Melun and Meaux where you can taste and buy the famous Brie de Meaux.
