The best tips!
What are the best holiday destinations in France during the spring? Of course, this depends on your preferences. We have curated a list – based on different types of holidays: from active to more relaxing destinations.
1.
Work on your tan in the South of France
The South of France is loved by many. In April and May, you can expect temperatures above 20 degrees, which makes it the perfect destination to enjoy some pre-summer sun. You can stay in the beautiful mountains around Nice, stay at the Côte d’Azur or go on a city trip to Marseille. It is often a bit less crowded in the spring than during summers, which makes it the perfect time to relax and enjoy the scenery.
Are you staying in the area around Nice? Go on a road trip through Gorges du Verdon, which is called the ‘Grand Canyon of France’. You find several cool historic villages in the surrounding where you can enjoy a nice Provencal dinner.
2.
Go on a city trip to Montpellier
Montpellier is France’s 8th largest city, with a great Mediterranean climate. It is known to have one of the oldest universities of the world, founded in the 13th Century. Thanks to its many students and cozy squares, the city is very lively. Montpellier has a historic city center where you can enjoy food, drinks and have a great shopping day. But the city has, even more, to offer: in and around the city you’ll find all kinds of sights. From amazing views from the Promenade or Peyrou to awesome street art at Place Edouard Adam. It is a city of contradictions with its historical character and ‘modern, hip’ hot spots. Even though Montpellier might not be the thing that comes to mind when you think of a city trip, it definitely is worth a visit. The surroundings of the city are beautiful as well, which is a bonus.
3.
Visit the volcanic landscape of Auvergne
Auvergne is now merged with the neighboring region Rhône-Alpes (during the regional merger). The region is known for its beautiful landscape. You can enjoy many strolls through the woods of central France or enjoy hikes in the volcanic mountains. Our tip? Make a road trip through this region!
4.
Go skiing in the Alps or Pyrenees
Skiing in the spring is wonderful. Why? You’ll get ‘the best of both worlds’. You can enjoy the mountains, while you enjoy the sun. It is recommended to go early in the springtime (the end of March or the start of April), to optimize your chances of being able to ski in fresh snow
