The house
Modern architecture: light, air, comfort and breathtaking views!
Like a balcony, the gite floats between the treetops. At your feet lies the "Lauragais", a patchwork of sunflowers, cornfields and picturesque villages. On a clear day, your view extends to the Pyrenees (from Canigou to Pic du Midi, 300 km. wide).
You overlook Aude, Haute - Garonne and Ariège.
The gite is the (completely independent) guesthouse of our holiday home. We only rent in our absence, so peace and privacy are guaranteed.
A Dutch contact person provides the keys and on request tips, help and advice.
The interior of the gite is stylish and functional.
Of course you will find T.V., Wifi, DVD and CD player, but more exciting is the panorama. Every thunderstorm a feast!
Ball game is possible on the grounds (7000m2 meadow, garden and forest). Those who are lucky will find a partner to play boules with on the square in front of the church.
No swimming pool, but lovely swimming water at about 15 min (lac St. Ferreol, lac de Lampy).
A sheltered outdoor terrace adjoins the dining kitchen, the wooded part of the garden offers shade and coolness.
A fine network of paths and little asphalt roads invites you to discover the immediate surroundings on foot or by bicycle. Farmhouses, sunflowers and castles... bring your picnic basket!
Toulouse at 40min, Pyrenees at 60min, Mediterranean at 90min, Barcelona 3hrs.
A carefree holiday home for those seeking peace and quiet and space.

If you are forbidden, or made impossible (e.g. quarantine), to travel you will be refunded your deposit.

Surroundings
East of Toulouse lies the Lauragais. As far as Carcassonne, there are rolling hills and wide valleys. It is rightly called the "Tuscany of France". Small-scale agriculture provides a daily changing panorama of rapeseed, corn and sunflowers.
Once, the pastel production in this region was the basis of the medieval prosperity of Toulouse. The many castles and farmhouses from the 19th century bear witness to renewed prosperity through agriculture.
The gite is situated at the edge of a village without shops and pubs, next to the ruins of a medieval castle built on the foundations of a Cathar fortress.
An artisanal boulangerie can be found in St. Julia (5 min.), Cuq or Montégut. Lively regional centres such as Revel (10 min.) or Lavaur provide everything for daily living.
Revel lies at the foot of the Montagne Noire, an unspoilt low mountain range (20 min.). Hiking, mountain biking or horse riding. Wonderfully cool in heatwave time.
If you want to go higher, you can be at the foot of the Pyrenees within an hour, and if you like salt water, you can be at the beach within an hour and a half...
The Montagne Noire offers swimming opportunities in a UNESCO listed environment. A system of reservoirs (park-like construction and sandy beaches) from the 18th century supplies the Canal du Midi with water. Along the banks of the supply canal, you will cycle from Revel for 40 km between ancient cypresses and cedars. Horizontally!
Urban entertainment can be found in Toulouse (45 min.), Castres (museum Goya), Carcassonne (Cité médiévale) or Albi (museum Toulouse-Lautrec).

Reviews
Mieke from Apeldoorn,
Mary from Uithoorn,
Restaurants, food & wine
In this region, the tastiest and longest (not the leanest...) statistical life in France is found.
Hearty or fine regional cuisine at reasonable prices in each village (during the week, mainly at lunchtime). The region has no tradition of wine (mild climate + fertile soil = agriculture). Nevertheless, the Lauragais is surrounded by wine regions that justify a discovery. For example, our house wine is a red "côte de Malepère" (pre-Pyrenean). Better known might be Gaillac (the "oldest" wine region of France, 40 min.) and Minervois (nice day trips).
Delicious weekly markets (Saturday) without tourist kitsch in Revel and Lavaur.
Activities
Those who visit the Lauragais avoid the well-trodden tourist paths.
Lively all year round, no tourist peak.
Around and with regularity you will find various local activities, where outsiders are also welcome (village festivals, vide-greniers, concerts and clay pigeon shooting).
Discover the picturesque villages (with restaurant, pub, terrace): St. Julia, St. Felix, Loubens, Auriac (all around at 5 - 10 min.).
Historians search for traces of the region's eventful Cathar history: Montgey, St. Felix, Les Cassès, Saissac....
The varied landscape offers plenty of opportunities for lazy or sporty cycling.
Rent a horse in the Montagne Noire, or a boat or bike on or along the Canal du Midi.
Because of its location, the gite is an ideal home base for day trips to town, beach and high mountains.
If you don't want to go anywhere for a while, you can relax on the couch and enjoy the great view.
