The house
Charming gite, constructed by using old materials and designs. Beautifully located in a small valley in the Parc Natural Regional des Causses du Quercy.
The summerhouse is fully equipped and has a large heated private swimming pool. One enters the house in the large kitchen and dining area, which includes an electric stove and oven, a microwave, washing machine and a Nespresso coffee machine. Situated next to this is a comfortable sitting room with a large fireplace with a wood burner, a flatscreen tv (with BBC and other foreign channels) and free WiFi. Bedding and kitchen linen are available (towels available at an additional surcharge).
The first floor consists of a spacious bedroom with a double bed (and plenty of room for a baby cot if needed), a spacious landing with an additional single bed and the bathroom with toilet, wash basin, full size bath and separate shower.
Outside one finds the spacious terrace with a 6 seating dining table, a small seating area in the rose garden, and a spectacular view on the lower garden, swimming pool and surrounding hills. In the authentic 18th century four au pain (bread oven, located next to the large house) a football table is available.
The newly constructed swimming pool (9x4m) is heated and exclusively available for the tenants of the gite. On the pool terrace one can find four lounge beds and two big parasols.
The gite has been built adjacent to the 17th century country house (which won’t be used during your stay) and is located at the end of the road. From there a track leads into the woods and hills.
The gite and surrounding area is not suitable for people with impaired mobility.

Surroundings
The gite and the original main house are located in a small uninhabited valley within the national park of the Causses du Quercy. Complete silence reigns, occasionally broken by the bleating of sheep, the rustling of small animals in the undergrowth and the hooting of an owl at night. In the fields surrounding the house one can observe deer and foxes at twilight, in the nearby forest boars can occasionally be heard. Due to the absence of large cities and industry you will be able to gaze at the most beautiful night skies with an amazing amount of star constellations visible for the naked eye.
At 5km distance the village of Labastide-Murat is situated. Here you will be able to find a large Carrefour supermarket, a bakery, a butcher, a bank with ATM, a petrol station, the weekly farmers market (on Sunday morning), a restaurant, a pizzeria, the fire department and a medical center.
Beautiful medieval villages in the vicinity, like Soulomes (at 3km), Montfaucon and Saint Germain du Bel Air are well worth a visit. Several Cites Fleuries (the most beautiful villages in the surrounding area like the famous Saint-Cirque-Lapopie) and the stunning rock village of Rocamadour, and the towns of Cahors and Sarlat in the Dordogne are highly recommended by us to visit!

Reviews
Peter Claeys from Zelzate,
Janny from Leeuwarden,
Hans en Mieke from Groningen,
Restaurants, food & wine
Traditional auberges and country inns can be found in nearby villages. The region (the old province of Quercy) is known for its delicacies like black truffle, confit de canard and magret de canard (duck), foie gras, goat cheese from the Rocamadour area, and the ‘black wine’ from the region of Cahors. The chique and charming provincial capital Cahors has been the centre of the Malbec grapes, which are the main ingredient of the AOC Cahors wine, since Roman times.
At the weekly farmers market in Labastide-Murat you can taste and buy many locally produced products. Foie gras of the local goose farm at the entrance of the village, ripe tomatoes sweetened by the sun, fresh herbs and vegetables, spicy sausages of the famous black pigs and local goat cheese.
Activities
Ultimate silence in natural surroundings. Open fields and forests just at your doorstep. Outdoor activities like hiking and mountain biking through the beautiful nature, visits to medieval castles, small picturesque villages, local farmers markets, antiques and flea markets, archaeological sites, caves with prehistoric drawings etc.
Canoeing can be done on the Dordogne river, fishing is possible on the Dordogne and the Lot rivers and there are several artificial fishing lakes in the nearby region (Labastide-Murat, Montfaucon, Le Vigan).
