Caramel House is situated in a cul-de-sac on the top of a hill and is built in the style and stone typical of the region. The house faces south and has breathtaking views over fields of sunflowers, wheat and vines for the production of Cahors wines. Absolute peace and quiet with the occasional farmhouse in the countryside and a seemingly abandoned church built entirely from the local yellow limestone, no background noise except the wind (occasionally) and the cries of a bird of prey flying overhead. In short, something for those looking for peace and quiet and nature lovers! Around the house is a beautifully landscaped garden with lawn, direct access to the private pool that is only accessible to the tenants of the house. There is also a landscaped petanque court and in the barn just up the slope is a ping pong table with accessories. A BBQ is also available.

Reviews
Goddyn from Hooglede,
Hendrik Van de Voorde from Eeklo,
Restaurants, food & wine
Who says Lot or Quercy enters a region with an exquisite culinary tradition. Of course, a lot is devoted to duck and goose (confit de canard, foie gras, magret de canard). But the region also has a lot to offer in terms of delicious beef (Blonde d'Aquitaine breed), pork and mutton. Feel free to visit 'Boucherie Laurent' in Montcuq: this man has an incredible passion for his profession and breeds everything himself. The culinary assets of the region are many, but the black truffle of the Périgord should certainly not be forgotten, although it is best to visit one of the world famous truffle markets in the region in autumn. Because of the good climate, there are many delicious fruits and vegetables to be found in the region: the plums of Agen, the melons of Quercy, strawberries, tomatoes in all shapes and colours, etc... As for wine, you are in the middle of the Cahors region with the famous black Cahors wine, made of the malbec grape. Meanwhile, there are also many wineries that offer delicious rosé and white wines made from the chardonnay grape. You are also close to the Bergerac wine region and the Gaillac wines (made with special old grape varieties). And to finish with a good digestive, you can opt for a 'Vieille Prune' or an Armagnac (you are here also quite close to the Gers and thus Gascony, known for its Armagnac).
Activities
The house Caramel in the new merger municipality Porte-du-Quercy is situated at the end of a dead end road between vineyards and sunflower fields. From here you can make fantastic walks and cycling tours (the GR 65 passes close to the house). You are also close to the Lot along which a car-free and fairly flat well mapped out cycle route runs that follows the banks of the river and regularly crosses the river. Also on the Lot: possibility of fishing and kayaking. Just past Cahors in the direction of St.-Cirq-Lapopie you can go canoeing/kayaking (from Bouzies). In the surroundings of Porte-du-Quercy there are many nice market places of which Montcuq with its fantastic Sunday morning market is the most important, next to Cahors with its market on Saturday and Wednesday morning. Also the evening marchés gourmandes are not to be missed and typical for this region in South-West France. You can find them in Belaye and Loubejac (don't forget to bring your cutlery!). There are also many cultural and music festivals: the blues festival of Cahors in mid-July is world famous and attracts international artists. Also in Montcuq there are music festivals in August. The region is also known for its many flea markets and shops. The region also offers fantastic gastronomy: foie gras in all its forms, the delicious Quercy melons and many other fruits such as nectarines and prunes from Agen, all accompanied by delicious Cahors wine.

Further remarks
We rent the house from Saturday to Saturday (arrival after 16h, departure at the latest at 10h). Prices do not include final cleaning or bed linen (both are obligatory). We do ask you to leave the house as tidy as possible when you leave and to bring your waste and empty bottles to the public containers provided (you will find them at the old church of Farguette, near Caramel).
Because of bad experiences, we do not rent to groups of young people, only to families.
Because of the unenclosed garden and the steep slopes next to it, this house is somewhat less suitable for very small children. The owners are not responsible for any accidents that may occur.
