The house
The holiday home, also called gite, is at the top floor of our house, with its own entrance and part of the garden. We bought the house at the beginning of 2019 and completely renovated the building and the gite including new kitchen and furniture. The house is built from traditional old stones and has 3 floors. It is set in a romantic garden on various levels with dozens of plant species. There is a swimming pool in the garden that can be heated in the early and late season. The holiday home / gite has a living space of 50 m2 and has a spacious living room with kitchen and sofa bed for 2 people, 1 separate bedroom with sink and double box spring (1.60 x 2.00). There is also a bathroom with sink, shower and a separate room for the toilet. There are several private terraces for you to use and you can also use the rest of the garden and swimming pool during your stay. If the holiday home is rented out, the owners make little use of the swimming pool and most of the garden.
The holiday home is located almost directly on a hiking trail and overlooks the foothills of the Cevennes.

Reviews
Ria en Harry from Heerhugowaard,
Ellen en Peter from Den Haag,
Hans den Exter en Marjan Meerlo from ‘s Gravenmoer,
Wat een geweldige lokatie! We hebben enorm genoten van de prachtige gite en de fijne mensen, Marianne en Detmer.
Heerlijk rustig, geweldig zwembad en een super-gite! Een dikke tien! We komen zeker terug…….
Restaurants, food & wine
Gastronomy in the Gard
The food in the Gard is very tasty and blessed with the powerful aroma of the Mediterranean areas with olive oil, garlic and southern herbs. In the coastal areas you can find oysters, mussels, sardines, sea urchins and fruits de mer. Another specialty from the area is pre-salted lamb. The animals eat the herbs and the salty grass on the marsh soils of the Camargue, making the meat tender and well-infused.
Moreover, the region is a provider of the first peaches, cherries and apricots for a part of France.
Activities
This French holiday home is an excellent base for exploring both the Cévennes and the Southern Ardeche. In the nearby villages of Besseges and St. Ambroix are various shops including a bakery, Carrefour and several cafes and restaurants.
In the Cevennes you can combine nature, culture and sporting activities. You can take beautiful walks or bike rides and swim in the clear water of the many rivers along the way. Those who want more challenge can go rafting, canoeing or kayaking from Vallon-Pont-d'Arc. In addition, there are dozens of castles and museums in our area, not to mention beautiful old villages such as Barjac, St. Ambroix and Les Vans where a flea market is organised every week.
The most impressive structure in the Gard is the Pont du Gard, the fantastic stone bridge in Roman architecture, built to supply water to Nimes via a 50 km route from the sources in Uzès.
The town of Uzès is very lively in summer with cafés, restaurants, market squares and medieval buildings. The city is located at the foot of the Le Duché castle. In addition to Uzes, the cities of Nimes, Avignon and Montpellier are also worth a visit. If you are interested in flora and fauna, the boat trip with the Confrerie de bateliers de l'Ardeche is a must. They organize day trips through the Rèserve Naturelle, one of the most beautiful protected nature reserves in France. Near the house you can visit one of the most beautiful three caves in France La Grotte de Cocalière.
For younger and older children there is more than enough to choose from in the Gard. Near Rochessadoule is Le Grand Bois, an exciting adventure park for young and old, the steam train through the Cevennes from Anduze or a visit to the Haribo factory and the crocodile farm.
Fancy water activities? Go swimming in the rivers in the area such as the Cèze, Chassezac and the Gorges de l'Ardeche. You will also find beautiful gorges and beaches there. The Lac de Villefort, a large mountain lake, is also recommended. In addition to good bathing water and various beaches, there is also a hiking trail around the entire lake. If you fancy sandy beaches and the sea, then drive to the Mediterranean Sea in an hour and a half.
Prefer to play a game of golf? There is a 18-hole golf course in Nimes or a 9-hole course nearby Grospierres.
Rochessadoule is perfect situated for visiting Provencal places such as Avignon, Nimes, Orange and Uzes.

Further remarks
The house is set on a middle high mountain and the garden around it slopes up or sometimes down in different levels (terraces). For that reason, the gite is not really suitable for people with walking difficulties or in some situations for small children. If in doubt, send us an email.
Because our house is in a nature reserve, our gite is also attractive for bird watchers or butterfly enthusiasts. We already received some enthusiastic reactions about this.
