Canaules is a small, charming French village whose main activity is vine-growing. It's an excellent base from which to explore the Cévennes and the surrounding charming towns, if you can get away from the sparkling water of the Mas de la Bastide swimming pool. Just 50m from the Mas, opposite the town hall, the village café welcomes you for lunch or dinner, and for essential shopping.
Restaurants, food & wine
'Le Canaules', the village 'cafe-multiservice' has a bar/cafe and is developing a restaurant with a 'plat de jour' and other tasty dishes. Bread can also be collected there.
There is a bar/resto in St Jean de Serres (1.5km) and a number of good eating places in Lezan (3kms) and Ledignan (5kms) Anduze (10kms) has many restaurants to suit all tastes as well as informal eating.
On Sunday evenings a pizza van is available in Canaules outside of the mairie. If you prefer to cook your own food, there are numerous outlets for local seasonal produce and provisions can be bought at the small supermarket in Lezan, which also has an excellent bakery and a small Sunday market, while the bigger supermarket in Lédignan can satisfy most requirements.
Activities
La Bastide des Lavandières was built in 1850 and is full of character with everything you need for an excellent vacation. The surrounding countryside for walking or cycling is just a short stroll away and the area is known for its historical and tourist attractions.
The medieval town of Anduze, with its restaurants, boutiques and activities for adults and children, is nearby. The amazing Bambouseraie can be reached in 15 minutes by car, and why not take the famous Cévennes Steam Train? It leaves from Anduze and stops at the Bambouseraie and at St Jean du Gard, made famous by R.L. Stevenson's "Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes".

Further remarks
Canaules is a hidden gem for relaxed, memorable holidays, It has character as a working 'Piedmont Cevennole' village and lies in an authentic rural setting, but it is also close to many other interesting towns and villages full of tradition. Many of our guests return many times to enjoy and continue to explore the many aspects of this sunny corner of southern France.
