'Chez nous'

The village of Pépieux is situated in the valley of the Aude and is completely surrounded by vineyards. It is situated between the city of Narbonne at the coast and Carcassonne, with its famous La Cité, in the interior, both at about 30km distance. Close to Pépieux is the larger town Olonzac, with several (brocante) shops, restaurants, terraces and bars, and a weekly large traditional market which always attracts many people from the wide area. Three kilometres away is Lac de Jouarres where you can sunbathe, swim, surf and fish. And also the Canal du Midi, on the world heritage list of UNESCO, with its many locks and aqueducts, runs right along this lake. South of Pépieux are the mountains of the Corbières and the Pyrenees, at about 1 to 2 hours driving distance. Here you can do adventurous walking, canyoning and rafting. The Parc naturel régional du Haut-Languedoc and the Montagne Noire on the other side of Pépieux are a lot closer, five minutes by car and you drive straight into this beautiful nature reserve. Here you will find, among others, the ancient and very picturesque village of Minerve (the namesake of our wine region, the Minervois), impressive cliffs and deeply eroded 'gorges', old oak and chestnut forests and clear cool (swimming) streams. If you like challenging cycling trips, on a racing bike or mountain bike, this is the place to be. In this vast area, you can also make beautiful (already marked) walks and, if desired, find some cooling in the summer. For lovers of sea and beach; the Mediterranean Sea with its long coastline full of beautiful sandy beaches and charming fishing villages is about forty minutes away. Golfers can play on the courses of Narbonne, Lamalou-les-bains and Carcassonne. The Languedoc-Roussillon has a long, rich history which can be found everywhere, from museums to the great outdoors. For children there is also plenty to do; a climbing park, canoeing, water jumping, wake boarding, horse riding, visiting caves and much more fun.
