The house
LE PALMIER is a house with massive oak beam ceiling, lots of character and space (145m2), elegantly furnished, with two bedrooms.
The large terrace, south facing, with table, barbecue, parasol and comfortable chairs, borders the garden which is walled/fenced so children can play care free.
The terrace doors give access to the large living /dining room (60m2) which seats 6 people (candlelight chandelier), the lounging area features a 65'' 4k TV with 4k BluRay player.
The master bedroom features a fireplace (dated 1790, probably the year the house was built) a kingsize bed, table and two armchairs, a small antique writing desk plus a wardrobe.
The second bedroom has two single beds, a small writing desk with an antique chair and a wardrobe.
The living room offers a daybed (120x190). A cot, play pen and high chair are available.
The kitchen is equipped with all modern comforts such as dishwasher, washing machine, oven, large hob, microwave, fridge, Nespresso and Senseo machines.
The bathroom features an Italian shower and bath tub. Separate toilet in the hall way.
The entrance hall connects to the courtyard and a second, covered terrace with a pingpong table.

Surroundings
Domaine du Trabet, 14 hectares, is surrounded by vineyards and agriculture (corn one year, sunflowers the next). The buildings are located around a large courtyard, partly covered (table tennis and other games)
About a hundred metres from the gites is the large 'cave' where they used to make wine.
The pool (100m2) goes up to 1.50m deep and is very suitable for children. With its large terraces and poolhouse with surrounding trees for shadow in summer it provides a very pleasant place to stay.
Our guests have free use of the tennis courts in the village next door, and there are a number of mountain bikes and golfclubs available.
From the Domaine you walk straight into the vineyards. The foothills of the Montagnes Noires start near 'Le Trabet' and provide many very good bike rides.
Shops can be found in the two neighbouring villages (a few minutes by car): bakers, butchers, grocer, supermarket, post office.
Carcassonne (10 minutes by car) has several large supermarchés and in the town centre can be found lots of nice shops, cafés and restaurants.

Reviews
Maarten Van Der Lee from Hilversum,
Een heel hartelijk ontvangst gehad. Overal is goed over nagedacht.

Thank you so much for your comments. We loved having you stay with us, enjoy the rest of the summer Claudia.
Fam Heida from Den Haag,
Willem en Egna Leys from Berkel-Enschot,
We look back on a successful holiday. We enjoyed the beautiful locaties and your hospitality. The cottage is attractive and fully equipped. Quiet area near Carcassonne and Mirepoix. Highly recommended and if we are in the area again we will definitely stad with you again. Sincerely Willem and Egna Leys

Restaurants, food & wine
Wine culture plays an important role in Languedoc and Aude. The second most important wine areas in Aude are Minervois and Corbières, which now produce excellent wines , both still affordable. If you are a wine lover you should plan to take home a few boxes.
At the weekly local markets one can buy fresh vegetables and meat, straight from the farmer. In summer several local festivities take place, mostly around food and drink, such as 'Fêtes de Truffes, d’Agneau , du Vin.'
Good restaurants both low-price and high-end, can be found everywhere. The renowned local dish is the Cassoulet (a casserole of duck leg, sausage and beans).
There are several pleasant restaurants right on the Canal du Midi, close by.
Activities
Departement Aude is known for its many medieval towns, Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi were placed on the World Heritage Site by Unesco. Besides the many Cathar castles you will also find numerous fortified villages ('bastides') such as Mirepoix, Limoux, Minerve and several splendid abbeys (Lagrasse, Fontfroide, St. Papoul). All certainly worth a visit.
Watersport lovers can go to the Mediterranean sea side (about an hour by car), lakes and -wild- rivers (kayak) in southern Aude.
For enjoying nature and walking or hiking Aude is a true ' petit paradis' . Our guests can walk to their heart's delight in the neighbouring, protected Parc Régional de Languedoc with its beautiful, vast forests and hills, in the lovely nature of the Corbières and in the Pyrenees which are a little further afield.
A stay at 'Le Trabet' will give you a combination of relaxing and being active. Relaxing in the gîte, around the house and the pool, in the cosy restaurants and on the coast. Activities: visiting historic towns, local markets and village festivities. And - above all - unrivaled walks, picnics, cycling and horse riding in the quiet (even in summer) enjoying the unspoiled nature.
Ideal conditions - we think - for a successful holiday.
- Bicycle
- Near hiking trails
- Near ATB trails
- Near riding
- Water sports
- Mountain sports
