The house

  • Quiet, rural area with some agricultural activity

Our stylish tents sit in a meadow in the beautiful countryside of the Lauragais, an undiscovered corner of France between Toulouse and Carcassonne offering a truly unique holiday. Bringing together modern style and the tranquility of nature, the tents feature amazing panoramic windows that provide natural light and roof windows to gaze at the stars at night. You can have all the fun of the outdoors with all the comfort of the indoors.

There is plenty of space for all the family in the two bedrooms, one furnished with a double bed, the other with bunk or twin beds, all made up with organic cotton linens, both feature black out curtains for a great night’s sleep.

Meals can be enjoyed together inside and outside. The dining table and seating area with a comfortable sofa look out over the fields. Your tent is a short step to a private, ‘en-suite’ shower room and toilet with heated floors for a hot shower even in the cooler months. The private kitchen is your own to create wonderful meals inspired by the fabulous local markets and artisan producers. It is fully equipped with a combi microwave oven, gas hob and fridge.

The tents boast a lovely wooden deck surrounded by the wild flower meadow, the perfect environment to sit, relax and enjoy the views.

Our site has a shared outdoor, heated swimming pool, children’s play area, games and a small on site shop for essentials and local products. The shaded barn has space to eat, drink and mingle with other like-minded travellers. A place for camping, not a campsite.

Beautiful place and very peaceful, we had great holiday and Peter and Liz could not have been any more helpful. We found excellent places, restaurants and fates that we would never have found without their help and knowledge. We loved the swimming pool and it was a relaxing environment. Our gite had everything we need. We would truly recommend Nature's Pace Holidays to everyone! Thank you Peter and Liz

Restaurants, food & wine

One of the best things about this region for us, is the rich food and wine heritage. We are surrounded by food producers and restaurants which offer a wide range of food drawing on the rich local food culture. The most famous local dish is cassoulet claimed by our nearest town, Castelnaudary. Nearly all restaurants offer a cassoulet or you can buy a ready made cassoulet from a traiteur. If the traditional cassoulet is a bit too much, several patisseries in Castelnaudary sell an ice-cream cassoulet with nougat instead of beans. A treat for children young and old!

We are surrounded by a range of excellent restaurants ranging from the Relais de Riquet on the Canal du Midi which offers good quality traditional food at reasonable prices with an unexpectedly wide ranging wine selection and a cassoulet to take away or the more modern menu of Le Pas de Narouze located by the Bassin de Naurouze on the Canal du Midi offering very reasonably priced set menus serving high quality modern French food. The restaurant in
For a more special gourmet experience there is L’ Auberge du Poids Public in the historic village of Saint Felix de Lauragais. The dining room boasts fabulous views across the Pleine de Lauragais and outstanding food including a vegetarian menu. It is mentioned in the Michelin Guide and is a great favourite with the locals for a special meal experience.

One of our passions is food, we are lucky to be surrounded by artisan producers whose products we stock in our on-site shop. Many of these are available for visits, so taste the beer, meet the producer. We even have an olive oil producer in our village who offers tasting visits in the Summer!
There are several wine regions nearby with interesting appellations that combine Mediterranean and Atlantic grapes such as Malpere, Minervois and Cabardes delivering complex reds and fabulous roses. Gaillac to the North produces brilliant whites as well as bold reds. The area is also a growing centre for organic wine making, with many organic vineyards as well as our friends at Brequet, the organic brewery nearby.
Markets
We are located at the heart of the Lauragais agricultural landscape which gives us access to local food and a fascinating range of markets. The most famous are Revel and Mirepoix which are both held in medieval market places with a large range of both local and organic producers. Our nearest market is at Villefranche de Lauragais every Friday where you can buy anything you need, and many things you did not know you needed. We found the best strawberries we have ever tasted! In all there are nearly 20 markets in and around the Lauragais.

Other amenities
Our nearest boulangerie, pharmacy, doctors and small supermarket are in the village of Labastide-d’Anjou 6km away, our favourite boulangerie is in Avignonet-Lauragais 5km away. Our nearest town is Villefranche-de-Lauragais which has a range of independent shops, boulangeries, boucheries, bars and restaurants and a large Hyper-U supermarche. Revel has a range of independent shops in and around the market square.

Activities

We are located in the small village of Montmaur in the Aude, just over the border with the Haute-Garonne and only 45 minutes from Toulouse and Carcassonne airports. We are also only 15 minutes from the A61 motorway and the railway line between Toulouse and the Mediterranean.

We provide an excellent base for exploring the Lauragaise and beyond :
- Swimming, walking or boating at Lac Saint-Ferréol or Lac de la Ganguise
- Explore the Cathar castles at Saissac
- Evening Apero at our local Olive Grove
- Explore Carcassonne
- A day in Toulouse
- Visit our local markets such as Revel and come back to prepare the perfect dinner.
- Cycling and walking in the surrounding hilly countryside
- Visit an organic vineyard or brewery
- Rent a bike to cycle along the Canal du Midi to try the real Cassoulet

  • Near hiking trails
  • Near riding
  • Water sports

Further remarks

We enjoy a beautiful setting in the heart of the Lauragais countryside, surrounded by history, culture and many great things to do. Lauragais is a region in the French department of Occitanie that sits between Toulouse and Carcassonne. For more information see the Lauragaise Tourisme website.

We want to give people time to connect, connect to nature, connect to the local culture and connect to each other.
