The house
Are you looking for a nice holiday address where you can de-stress, in a setting where nature and culture play the leading role, then our holiday home in the South of France might be for you.
In the beautiful Mediterranean landscape of the Aude department (Occitanie region) lies our attractive and cosy holiday home POURQUOI PAS; a characteristic French village house in the middle of the beautiful nature of the Corbières.
The house is surprisingly spacious, bright and comfortable. And despite being in a village, you have plenty of privacy in and around the house.
From the roof terrace you have endless views, including over the vineyards with the hills of the Aude in the background.
When you step out of the front door, you are in one of those typical southern French village streets, narrow, lined with old houses, but within 1 minute you are walking in nature and among the vines.
Pourquoi Pas (3 floors , 115 m2) has a terrace/garden on the ground floor, a balcony on the first floor and, to top it all off, the roof terrace with beautiful views over the hills of the Aude.
The house has 2 living rooms. One opening onto the garden at the back and one on the 1st floor on the balcony side. Furthermore, there are 2 bedrooms and a lounge room adjacent to the roof terrace, a bathroom with bath, a 2nd toilet and a cosy spacious kitchen. A spacious stairwell with beautiful oak staircase connects the 3 floors.
The house, suitable for 4 persons, is tastefully and comfortably furnished (washing machine, bath, TV). Unfortunately, there is no WIFI. . All living spaces have electric heating; there is also a wood-burning stove in the living room.

Mathieu Nobilet from Betton,
Groet! PaulaJac Verhoeven from Etten-Leur,
Een huis met alle faciliteiten voor een fijn verblijf. Goede uitvalsbasis voor een week van activiteiten, reken op zeker 1 uur rijden voor meeste activiteiten. Davejean zelf biedt geen faciliteiten.
Restaurants, food & wine
Pourquoi Pas is situated in the middle of the Corbieres, a wine region since ancient times. Drive a part of 'Route 20 Corbieres' and discover the 'terroirs' and the many wine domains.
Activities
The Aude is a very versatile department, both culturally and naturally. You won't be bored for a day.
Many castles with an impressively charged past await you in this beautiful land.
Our house, Pourquoi Pas, is situated in the middle of the 'pays cathare ', the land of the Cathars, which is steeped in history.
You should definitely visit the magnificent medieval Cité of Carcassonne, France's best preserved walled city (UNESCO world heritage list) or the castle ruins of Peyrepertuse, situated at dizzying heights, from where you have a magnificent view all around.
In Villerouge Termenes, 7 km from Davejean, you can have lunch at the foot of the castle where the last Bonhomme of the Cathars died at the stake.
If you have had enough of the castles, visit the hot spring of Rennes les Bains or swim in the naturally formed pools of the Verdouble river.
There are also several interesting towns and cities nearby, such as the charming Lagrasse with its Abbey (12 century), medieval centre, beautiful Roman bridge and numerous inviting terraces.
The Cistercian abbey of Fontfroide is one of the largest and best-preserved abbeys in the Languedoc and is also located in a particularly beautiful southern landscape and should not be missing on your programme.
Perpignan and Narbonne are larger cities with a southern European character; well worth a visit.
And an hour's drive and you are on the sandy beaches of the Mediterranean.
And I haven't even mentioned the wine tasting, museums and outdoor sports possibilities. As said, you won't be bored!
There are no shops in Davejean, but a few mornings a week, the baker drives onto the village square and here you can buy baguettes, croissants and you name it.The fishmonger, cheese shop, greengrocer, butcher, etc. visit the village every week. In Laroque de Fa, 5 kilometres away, you will find a supermarket with an all-round assortment.
Although you are in a village, nature is all around you. Walks to choose from, always beautiful, adventurous or surprising.
The nature around you is magnificent and multifaceted in all directions.
Wild daffodils or orchids along the footpath in spring and in summer rosemary and thyme are scented everywhere.
From the terrace you can hear the nightingale and golden oriole singing, but also the call of the hoopoe and dwarf owl. House martins nest under the eaves.
