The house
Our gîte Vine at Domaine de la Matte can accommodate 2 to 6 people. Domaine de la Matte is a quiet, secluded farmhouse just 15 minutes' drive from Carcassonne. The gîte has 2 double bedrooms and 1 bedroom with bunk beds. A bathroom with shower, fully equipped kitchen with dining table, living room and private terrace outside.
The property has 18 hectares with farm animals and forest where you can go for lovely walks. There is a playground with swings, trampoline etc. The swimming pool is open from 23 June to 13 September. Parking is free. Pets are welcome, at an extra charge of € 6 per pet, per night (maximum 2 pets).
Breakfast and dinner are optional (table d'hôtes) and available every day. Both breakfast and dinner are served in the accommodation or on your terrace. There is a breakfast menu with 4 different options (€8.90 per person) and a menu with different options is available for dinner (€13 to €14 per dish).

Domaine de la Matte is an excellent base to explore the beautiful surroundings. The Domaine is situated on the border of farmland and forest and in the surrounding area you will find many vineyards. What characterises us most is the peace and nature which is wonderful after a day of activities in the region. In summer you can relax in the swimming pool (50m2 and 1.20 metres deep). Are you coming with children? Then don't miss a visit to our goat herds. Of course you can also say hello to Coco, our emu. Your children can also enjoy our playground located in a wooded area.
The villages of Conques-sur-Orbiel and Villegly are just a few minutes' drive away. Here you will find some restaurants and bakeries. For weekly shopping you can go to Carcassonne, a 15-minute drive away. Here you will find everything you need.
Domaine de la Matte is located on the edge of the valley. Across the valley we overlook the Pyrenees where there is often still snow on the peaks until June. Behind our Domaine begin the Montagne Noire. A beautiful small but wild mountain range. Within 10 minutes you imagine yourself in another world.
A day trip to the big city? Toulouse is an hour's drive away and Montpellier 1.5 hours. The cities of Narbonne, Beziers and Perpignan are also easily accessible and worth a visit.

Domaine de la Matte is located among the Cabardès (AOC) vineyards. To go down all the producers in the area, you will be busy for at least a week. However, we gladly advise you to attend a tasting at 1 of the great wineries.
Activities
Domaine de la Matte is located in a tourist area with plenty to do. Most people come to us to visit the beautiful (UNESCO) medieval city of Carcassonne. As we are in the middle of the Cathar region, there are many other historical sites to explore. Les Quatre Châteaux de Lastours, Château Comtal, Canal du Midi, Basilique Saint-Nazaire and many more.
Not in the mood for history, but nature? Then visit the beautiful caves, Grotte de Limousis or Gouffre Géant de Cabrespine. La Passerelle de Mazamet or Pic de Nore are also well worth a visit.
There is also plenty to do for activists. How about rafting, via ferrata, water-skiing, ziplining or canoeing on an underground river. There are also several swimming lakes nearby with beaches. The Mediterranean Sea beach is less than an hour's drive away.
There is plenty for young and old to discover in our beautiful region.
