The house

  • Quiet, rural area

The luxury gîte Figuier for 6 people is located in our beautiful large farmhouse from the beginning of the century. The name is a bit difficult to pronounce but it is named after the figuier, the big fig tree that stands nearby. On our small-scale holiday estate with heated pool, table d'hôte and play equipment, there are a total of 2 gîtes and 3 glamping lodges.

With all the fine amenities, a living area of 95 m2 and a large wooden terrace of 40 m2, it is a fine and comfortable holiday home.

The gîte is made with natural materials such as wood, inserted stone walls, cast iron and brocante details. And if you look closely with a touch of Art Nouveau. Thanks to the high ceiling and loft, the gîte gives you a lovely spacious feeling. The wooden floor makes the space warm and cosy.

The kitchen is equipped in such a way that you can enjoy cooking even during your holiday if you feel like it: large fridge with water dispenser and large freezer, extra wide 5-burner gas cooker with oven, dishwasher, all kitchen utensils and lots of crockery for entertaining. The coffee maker, kettle and toaster look a bit retro, but they are not from the brocante hear!In the living room you will find cosy sitting area with two lazy sofas and a large wooden dining table with 6 fine leather chairs.

In the spacious master bedroom, a fine box-spring bed with hotel-quality topper (180 x 200 cm) awaits you. There is a large wardrobe with hanging section and a cosy seating area. Above the bed is a whisper-quiet design ceiling fan that provides a soft breeze at night, making your sleep even more comfortable. There is room for a cot.
The bathroom has a spacious rain shower, a classic tub on legs, a wide sink and a large gold mirror made from an antique picture frame. There are 2 separate toilets on this floor.

On the upper floor under the roof you will find two bedrooms with a skylight. One of the bedrooms has two box-spring beds with toppers that can be used separately or pushed together to form a double bed of 160 x 200 cm. The other bedroom has two single beds of 90 x 200 cm.

Thanks to its west-facing location, thick outer walls and shutters, the cottage stays relatively cool inside.

For your comfort, the whole gîte is equipped with reversible air conditioning. So you can be sure that, even on very hot days, the whole family will sleep well. As the air conditioning can also work as heating, the gîte is also very suitable for a holiday or longer stay in spring or autumn.

When the weather is nice, you live outside a lot. That's why all our gîtes and lodges have an extra large terrace. But the terrace of Gîte Figuier is the most beautiful because of its location and the beautiful view! The spacious terrace has a large metal dining table with 6 chairs, a lounge set, 2 comfortable lounge chairs and a Weber barbecue. The terrace is half covered by a cosy pergola and there is a large parasol. The terrace is enclosed by a sturdy stair gate. Everything is in place to enjoy the summer to the fullest with stunning views over the rolling hills, the village of Lapenne with its characteristic church tower and the most beautiful sunsets!

We offer free and unlimited WiFi connection of good quality. It is a conscious choice not to offer television, so that you can completely let go of the hectic everyday life. Of course, it is possible to share special TV moments (important news and sports matches) with us and other guests on the big TV.

Restaurants, food & wine

What could be more delicious than a good cup of coffee on our French terrace overlooking the rolling hills, bisons and deer or perhaps your children playing in the pool?
It's possible at our little Peugeot bar! After a long search, we found an old Peugeot J7 van that Rendal has transformed into a bar-truck. There is a covered terrace to sit in the shade. In spring and autumn, of course, there is also plenty of room to sit in the sun.
We ourselves are almost always present on the domaine but may not always be around. If so, you may pour yourself a drink, make coffee or get an ice cream and note your consumptions in a notebook. We consider trust very important and would like to give this trust to our guests.
Three times a week we organise a table d'hôte. We then eat with all guests, young and old, together at long tables. When the children have finished, they can play and the adults can relax with a drink. The evenings will be buffet-style with lots of fresh salads as well as vegetarian and vegan dishes. If you have a special diet or allergy, please let us know and we will do our best to take this into account. The table d'hôte is by subscription.
The nearest bakery is about 15 minutes' drive from our domaine. Unfortunately, they do not deliver and we are too small to bake our own. On Sundays, you can order croissants, pains aux chocolats and pains aux raisins from us. On other days, we have delicious brown cereal breads and pains de campagne waiting for you in the morning.
You can checkout all your refreshments and food with us at the end of your stay. We do not have the facility to debit cards.

In summer, there are many village festivals in Ariège to which you, as our guest, are also welcome. They are cosy evenings usually in a big tent with long tables with delicious local food and lots of wine. The quality of the wine is not always top notch but that is not the point. It's mainly about conviviality. After dinner, the tables move aside and the music starts. The locals sometimes go on until the small hours because it is their annual party!

You will also find the most delicious dishes and local products in Ariège. The many cosy restaurants serve affordable menus and local specialities. If you have something to celebrate, a dinner at the Chateau de Camont is a special experience. The Boulangeries will make your mouth water and at the local markets you can buy the most delicious products to dive into the kitchen yourself. Wine tasting at a château is also possible. We are not so far from the Corbières and the Minervois where wonderful wines are made. Or take a scenic drive through the vineyards where the Blanquette de Limoux is made. This is a delicious local sparkling wine older than champagne. Near Carcassonne, you will find a number of producers of good 'vins naturels'.

Activities

On our domaine, you can relax by the swimming pool with stunning views, walk across the fields or play petanque. Children can build huts, swing or jump on the trampoline.
There are endless possibilities to be active, sporty or cultural in the area. To start with, there are two nature parks about 5 minutes away: the Ferme aux bisons and the Parc aux Bambous. Both parks also offer delicious lunch. Half an hour's drive away you will find cool lakes, streams, hills, mountains and caves where you can swim, cycle, walk and ride horses. For sports enthusiasts, there is a long list; cycling, mountain biking, rafting, canoeing, paragliding, karting, water-skiing. For children, there are climbing forests and water parks. If you prefer something quieter, just walking and cycling are also possible. Or half a day of golf combined with a visit to Carcassonne or Toulouse?
If the weather is not so good, we have many games in reception that you can borrow to play together or with the whole family. When in everyday life do you still have the opportunity to do so.
In spring, our fruit trees are full of cherries. In July and August there are figs and plums. Will you help pick and taste?
Whether you come as a family, with young children or teenagers, in pairs or alone, you won't be bored for a second. Unless you choose to be, of course, because doing nothing now and then can be wonderful too!
