The Ariege is a uniquely beautiful part of South Western France with Spain lying to the South and Toulouse to the North. Gite Vue des Montagnes lies in gentling rolling hills that eventually give way to the Pyrenees. You can gaze out across these mountains while you lie by the pool or enjoy a glass of wine in the evening while lounging in the garden. Our nearest town is Pamiers, just a ten minute drive away and offering large and small supermarketss, boulangeries, restaurants pharmacies as well as authentic French markets. Beyond Pamiers are historical towns like Mirepoix boasting charming squares and open air cafes. Just over an hour further East is the Mediterranean Coast while around two hours West is the Atlantic coast.

Restaurants, food & wine

While cassoulet and Toulouse sausage are some of the traditional local dishes there is a broad range of food and drink available in the area. From a basic 3 course lunch in a local café for around 14 euro to an haute cuisine lunch in Toulouse there is a lot to choose from. It's not just restaurants but many diverse and delicious foods are produced locally- there is a wide selection of goat and cow cheese. The department of the Ariege forms part of the Midi-Pyrenees which is major wine producing area. Bergerac, Buzet, Gaillac are just some of the tipples available.

Activities

We are less than an hour's drive from the Pyrenees which offer both winter and summer activities for all the family. From skiing in the winter to white water rafting, zip wire and wild life parks in the summer. Depending on which bike you bring you can cycle up the same peaks climbed by the Tour de France, go mountain biking on one of the many trails on offer or just make the most of the country roads. Other holiday activities available in the area include, golf, horse riding, walking and swimming in the local lakes.
