The house
La Perdrix (the partridge) cottage is a beautiful and spacious gite ideal for up to four people (aged 12 years and over) looking for a relaxing holiday or short stay. Featuring traditional exposed stonework and oak beams with modern fixtures and fittings throughout to ensure the highest level of comfort. The open plan living and dining area and the modern, well-equipped kitchen open out directly onto a private terrace overlooking the stunning heated pool and countryside beyond.
On the ground floor you will find bedroom 1 with a king size bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and a door leading out to the private terrace overlooking the pool. Also on the ground floor is a modern bathroom with a full size bath and shower. Upstairs on the mezzanine is a second bedroom with 1 double bed.
The property is surrounded by beautiful countryside on the Vienne/Charente border yet only 5 minutes from the historic town of Charroux with all amenities.
It is an ideal location to explore much of Poitou-Charentes being only 25 minutes to the Circuit du Val de Vienne, 30 minutes to Valley des Singes and only 1 hour from Limoges airport.

The cottage is located only 5 minutes from the pretty medieval town of Charroux in the beautiful Vienne countryside, close to the rivers Charente, Vienne and Clain. The neighbouring chateau, Chateauneuf, stands majestically surrounded by woodland and organically farmed fields. The location and setting is peaceful, tranquil and a haven for wildlife. Be amazed by the night sky, watch the bats come out at dusk, sit by the pool and watch the swallows swoop down to have a drink, and listen to the hoots of owls nesting in the barn.

This year we stayed in Sarah and Paul's second gite (La Perdrix) which is excellent, nicely decorated, perfectly clean, with the addition this year of a dishwasher and smart TV (though we we didn't actually use either!).
The WIFI has also been upgraded since 2023 and is excellent. The garden is well maintained and provides plenty of areas to sit out either in the shade or sun. There are plenty of poolside sun loungers. As per our comments last year, there were some lovely welcoming food items on our arrival and a comprehensive information pack.
We found additional places to eat this year, all within a 30 mins drive. We have nothing but praise for both the gite or our hosts.Comment from Sarah Wilkinson and Paul Duncan

Excellent rural location with beautiful garden, plenty of space to lie in the sun or under the shade of the lovely oak trees. Very good clean pool with lots of sun loungers. Lovely private patio. The gite itself is well laid out with plenty of space and is well equipped. The gite was clean on arrival with some lovely welcoming food items. There is a comprehensive information pack. Our hosts Sarah and Paul were friendly and helpful while also respectful of our privacy. While the local village (Charroux) does not have very many restaurants, it has two boulangeries and there are plenty of good restaurants in nearby villages (within 20 mins drive). There are also lots of interesting places to visit within 30 mins drive while the gite itself is perfect for a relaxing, quiet holiday.

Restaurants, food & wine
You will never be stuck for somewhere to dine, with a range of restaurants, bars and cafes only a short drive away. Or simply stay at home and conjure up something wonderful with produce purchased from any of the french markets in the area. The cottage has its own BBQ and private terrace overlooking the pool.
Activities
The Vienne countryside is ideal for walking and cycling and being amongst nature. The property is surrounded by organically farmed fields and woodland which is a haven for many bird species, including owls and buzzards, insects, and deer. If you would like to be a little more energetic then we suggest hiring bikes from the fantastic bikehiredirect who will deliver bikes to your door. Being so close to La Charente and La Vienne rivers means lots of fishing opportunities as well as canoeing, kayaking and swimming. If you enjoy visiting markets and brocantes then you won't be disappointed, there are several markets most days nearby.
