The house

  • Quiet, built-up area

2-4 persons | 2 bedrooms | kitchen with living room | private bathroom | village terrace | WiFi (high-speed internet/fibre optic) I remote working I long-term rental

This cosy citystyle village flat tastefully combines tough materials such as concrete, wood and metal, clean lines and fun vintage finds. On a pure grey/white and wooden base, we worked with the beautiful colours of the hilly landscape between Lot and Dordogne; the BLUE of the Lot river, the YELLOW of the rolling hills full of wheat, corn and sunflowers and the GREEN of the many fruit orchards can be found in the interior. It makes this village house wonderfully contemporary and original. You will soon feel 'at home'!

Layout

Village flat LØ.F.T Ô VILLAGE (2-4 people) is located on the ground floor, in a former storefront. During the renovation in 2017, the space was completely opened up, giving that spacious loft feeling! Divided into two living areas (together 80 m2), you will find the living room, kitchen, hallway and two bedrooms. Then, via a shared corridor with the flats on the 1st floor (with its own entrance, Rue Concorde), you arrive at the lockable dressing room / bathroom (shower, washbasin) / WC

First, you get the living room where you can sit at a large white-painted living table with sturdy sofa and vintage chairs. Above it, 70s lamps hang from a recycled water pipe for just the right atmosphere! You relax with a good glass of wine on the comfortable home-made wooden lounge sofa or one of the two vintage rattan armchairs.

Further on, you will find the beautiful open kitchen with tough concrete countertop, brocant tiles and industrial lamps in different colours. The kitchen is equipped with all modern conveniences; dishwasher, fridge-freezer, induction hob, electric oven, Nespresso coffee machine, kettle and microwave. You also have a nice spacious pantry with a nice mix of vintage plates and cups combined with "new" from the famous Swedish homeware store.

Then you get to the two bedrooms (1 bedroom with double bed 1.80 x 2.00m and 1 bedroom with 2 x single bed 0.80 x 2.00m) with reused wooden sliding doors that Rolf and Karen once took from their Dutch dike house to la douce France.

To top it all off, you have an attractive covered terrace on the village street. Together with a metal artist friend, this has been turned into a quirky outdoor spot. You enjoy the passing village life here. Have a nice breakfast or coffee and croissant in the morning and in the evening muse over wine and cheese. What else?

Activities

Middle Ages & Monflanquin I

Besides the 4 villages from our tourist region _Coeur de Bastides_, (visit always nice during market days of course): Monflanquin (*) with Musée des Bastides, Villeréal (*), Castillones & Cancon I like to highlight a few others between the Lot and Dordogne rivers:
_Penne d Agenais with its cathedral and viewpoint(s) on the Lot (Restaurant le "Bombecul" for lunch/dinner).
_Pujols (*) beautifully restored village on the same side, near Villeneuve sur Lot, and great views.
_Villereal, nice Saturday market all year round, all around the old market hall.
_Beaumont, also a lovely village on the way to the Dordogne River, after Villeréal.
_Monpazier (*) also a so-called Bastide and museum _Bastideum_ about this phenomenon v d new medieval villages and towns more to the Dordogne (very good lunch/dinner at "Privilège du Périgord").
_Tournon d'Agenais (*), one of the 3 listed villages, the so-called Les Plus Beaux Villages de France, in Lot-et-Garonne
_Puy l'Evèque, further east on the Lot towards Cahors

(*) These are listed villages cf the label "Les Plus Beaux Villages de France" (visit their own website).

Tous au marché! I The weekly (morning) markets - marchés hebdomadaires - in the area

Small partly covered market is 15 min away in Cancon on Mondays, with restaurant Azúl next door for a nice lunch. A market on Tuesday is Castillones and on the same day also in pretty village Beaumont de Périgord. On Thursdays, you can go to Monflanquin or Monpazier. Saturday is market day in Villereal (15 min). There is often an extra farmers' market in the summer months, such as on Wednesdays in Villereal, the so-called Marchés d'été. On Sundays there is a very nice big market in the Dordogne in the charming village of Issigeac, and in pretty village Pujol. Delicious local produce, fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese etc etc. 🍎🍑🍊🍓🍏🥬🥒🥦🥑🌶️🍆🥕

Kings 👑 & Castles 💒

Directly in the area +- 35/45 min drive I'll name a few:
1) *Chateau Bridoire* (with old games/games) near Bergerac (nice lunch nearby *Bistrot d'en Face* _see photo above_)
2) *Chateau Bonaguil* - _Site Majeur d'Aquitaine_ - near Fumel, at the foot v t castle div. lunches
3) *Chateau de Biron* near Monpazier. Lunch in Lacapelle-Biron on the way there at _Le Palissy_.

Then a little further away on the river 💦 the Dordogne (and therefore a nice combo with canoeing 🛶):
4) Some two medieval castles, fortresses *Chateau Beynac* and,
5) *Castelnaud de Chapelle* (imposing knight's castle) and this one combines nicely with the beautiful boxwood gardens *Les jardins suspendus de Marquessac* boxwood gardens with castle and restaurant with magnificent views, and finally,
6) Chateau les Milandes* by Josephine Baker at one hour

Food markets, long tables in the village square with locals and tourists the so-called Marché de Producteurs de Pays or Marchés Gourmands. Highly recommended!

About us

In 2002, I (Karen) picked up a croissant with my father-in-law at the local bakery. He wanted to show me 'something'. It turned out to be a dream spot just outside the village of Monflanquin. An old woman had lived alone for years on this beautiful overgrown hill (once a flower, plant & tree nursery) with old regional farms and a Pippi Longstocking-like house. The whole hamlet was for sale ... and it was love at first sight! (Rolf saw it a few days later and was immediately sold too). After it had been family property for 60 years, we bought it from the old lady and 14 of her relatives. Seven months later, we were living at Boulède with the family in the beautiful south-west of France.

We transformed 'Boulede' into an attractive small lodging house, a kind of private village with five rural houses.

And since 2017, we have added LØ.F.T Ô VILLAGE, our Town house among the locals. Only 3 kilometres away. Fine, because as a guest you can use various services at Boulede such as swimming in one of the 2 pools, booking a relaxation massage or attending a painting workshop.
