The house
The authentic and comfortable quality house Le Forgeron (6 pers. + 1 baby) is a former old regional farm situated in the charming private hamlet "Hameau de Boulède".
The house was completely renovated in 2004/2005 in a very stylish way, while retaining the original character of the houses in this region. Together with the house Le Menuisier it forms a very large semi-detached house where everyone has complete privacy.
Le Forgeron consists of two floors:
Ground floor: very spacious living/dining room + large open kitchen (70 m2),
bathroom, toilet, 1st bedroom
The living/dining room and kitchen are located in the former "grange" (large hay barn and cowshed) of this former farm. Part of the "creches" (the wooden cows' feeders) have been kept in this room to separate the living area with fireplace from the cooking/dining area. The kitchen and living/dining area together cover a total area of 70 m2. It is very spacious and light.
In the kitchen you will find a cooker, oven, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The dining area of the living room is adjacent to the kitchen and is one level higher (two steps), at the same level as the living room.
From the kitchen there are two doors to the covered part of the terrace, a so-called veranda. This terrace covers the entire width of the house (9m). Also from the living room there are two large doors to this terrace. Furthermore, in the living room there is a nice seating area around the fireplace.
From the living/dining room you have access to the 1st bedroom (double bed, 1.60 x 2.00), a separate toilet and the bathroom (shower, washbasin).
First floor: 2 bedrooms, bathroom (washbasin, toilet)
From the living room a staircase leads to the first floor where you will find the 2nd and 3rd bedroom and a bathroom with washbasin and the 2nd toilet. The 2nd bedroom has a double bed (1.60 * 2.00m), the 3rd bedroom (3 persons) has a single bed (0.80 * 2.00m) and a double bed (1.20 * 1.90m) possibly suitable for two smaller children to sleep together.
Outside
Directly adjacent to the kitchen is the beautiful, spacious veranda with large wooden outdoor table that provides shade in summer and a dry place to sit outside if it should rain. Over the entire width of the house you have a terrace (10 * 4m), part of which is covered by the veranda. From the house you look out over the gradually descending, 90 x 7 m deep private garden.
Boulède grounds = 25,000 square metres of holiday fun!
The entire grounds of 2.5 hectares (25,000 m2) are accessible to the tenants of Le Forgeron and Le Menuisier. On this outside area you will find the swimming pool (11m x 5m, depth: 1.10 - 2.00m) with comfortable seats and sun loungers, parasols. You can dream away in a hammock on a shady spot next to the swimming pool between a few trees.
There is also a play area for children (slide, swing, large trampoline, sandbox).

Surroundings
You are on holiday in the Lot-et-Garonne, close to the Dordogne and its river of the same name. Lot-et-Garonne is the region of bastides (medieval fortified towns), such as Monflanquin, Villeréal and Monpazier. You are also 40 minutes from the wine town of Bergerac and an hour from Cahors.
Le Menuisier (the carpenter) is located on the holiday park-in-progress Le Mayné de Boulède in the hamlet of Boulède. The park is privately situated on a hill with beautiful views over the rolling countryside and the nearby medieval fortified town of Monflanquin. Boulède is more than two hundred years old and a former "village d'artisans rural": a craftsmen's village (in the local vernacular Mayné) where a blacksmith (forgeron), a carpenter (menuisier) and a wine grower (vigneron) used to live.
You will find yourself in a first-class "Maison de Charme". The owners Rolf and Karen Kommer - de Graaff, who themselves live there all year round, transform this village into a picturesque and small-scale holiday park for lovers of peace, space and "joie de vivre". They renovate each of the eight houses and provide them with modern comfort while retaining all the original details of these beautiful regional houses.
Le Mayné de Boulède is located 2 km west of the pretty medieval fortified village (a so-called "Bastide") of Monflanquin, where you will find, among other things, several bakeries, a supermarket, a Tourism Info and several nice restaurants around the intimate medieval market square, which was restored in 2004.

Activities
10 good reasons to (re)experience this region rich in culture, nature and culinary delights:
Middle Ages, Monflanquin and Monpazier
Charming fortified towns à la campagne (countryside) that carry the Un des Plus Beaux Villages de France label. Monflanquin, founded by Alphonse de Poitier in 1256 and Monpazier founded by English King Edward the First in 1284 are two of a total of three hundred newly founded fortified towns in south-western France in the 12th and 13th centuries. The so-called Bastides.
Dordogne and Lot
The rivers La Dordogne and Le Lot offer numerous opportunities for varied water sports. Take a canoe trip down the Dordogne and admire Josephine Baker's castle Les Milandes from the water or find a nice fishing spot on the Lot.
Wines and food
Amid the wine regions surrounding you, Duras, Bergerac and Cahors, it's hard to choose where to have your glass of wine filled. In any case, visit St Emilion, the Bordeaux region's famous wine town. Drink your wine with one of the delicious, sometimes seasonal, regional dishes prepared with duck (magret de canard), goose, truffles, cèpes (type of mushroom), walnuts, Cabécou (goat's cheese) and/or the famous Pruneaux d'Agen. In July and August, in the evenings, sit down among tourists and French people at the Marchés Gourmands: at long tables in a picturesque market square, taste what the nearby farmers produce.
Walking, cycling and horse riding
Enjoyed too much south-west French cuisine? Put on your walking shoes or get on your bike. A whole day or an hour, a difficult or easy route. Here you will find several Grandes Randonnées (GR 636, GR36, GR654), Sentiers d'Emilie (walking routes for the whole family) and numerous cycling routes for the sporty cyclist, among others along the Lot river.
Golf
Beginners and advanced players put their clubs in the boot! A rich choice of 9 and 18-hole golf courses is at your disposal. For example, Golf Club de Lolivarie, rie.fr.st or the Villeneuve Golf & Country Club
Antiques & Brocante
From Vide Grenier (flea market) to brocante and antique markets. From May to September, they are plentiful and you can browse them all in search of that one special item.
Kings and castles
On the banks of the Dordogne they still exist, the real castles where knights and damsels courted each other. Visit Château de Castelnaud or Château Les Milandes of the world-famous Josephine Baker. No less beautiful but less known are Château de Biron, Château-Fort de Bonaguil and Château de Monbazillac. The latter is famed for its sweet dessert wine of the same name.
Quatre saisons
It all depends on what you like. Balmy summer evenings or fresh spring breezes? Each season in this region has its own charm. At the beginning of April you can enjoy the plum orchards in bloom (pruneaux d'Agen), from June to September you might prefer to relax by the pool, while in October you hike among full-red autumn colours in a summer shirt and in December you celebrate Christmas en famille around the fireplace of your holiday home.
French parties
And that the French can party! From a feast around the famous cèpes to medieval festivities in which you can immerse yourself as a spectator or dressed up as a medieval rogue and damsel. Numerous activities for young and old, medieval music, horse shows and a costume parade. Drink the mysterious drink Pise d'Ane during the Medieval Festival in Monflanquin, Friday 12 to Sunday 14 August 2005.
Last but not least, the children!
The children are not forgotten here. Besides important ingredients like sun and water at your holiday spot, you will find a large Walibi park in Agen. If you are looking for something smaller, visit an artisanal bread or paper mill.

Aurélie Minne from Izegem,
Comment from Karen Kommer - de Graaff
We zien jullie graag weer terug!
Familie Versluys from Breda,
