The house
Our holiday home Le Couvent is a restored monastery, on a hill in the rural village of Fieux in Lot-et-Garonne. With a living area of 310m2 on a fully fenced 65are plot, this gite can accommodate 12 adults. The monastery has been fully restored while retaining its beautifully high ceilings, pastoral windows with shutters and original thick natural stone walls. Even in spring and autumn it is blissful in Le Couvent, with its central heating, cosy pellet and wood-burning stove, plus heated swimming pool.
There are 6 bedrooms, 5 modern bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and separate dining room with TV, a winter living room with TV and summer living room with pool, soccer and library. Furthermore, the holiday home is equipped with wifi in all rooms, a range of electric kitchen appliances, American fridge with freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer.
From the 11x5m private swimming pool with sun terrace and luxurious loungers you have views of the wide surroundings. In clear weather, you can even see the Pyrenees. Under the 2 old chestnut trees there is a large shaded terrace near the dining room with aperitif lounge, wooden garden furniture under a gazebo, BBQ and ping-pong table. Mood lighting is provided both on the terrace and in the swimming pool. At the end of September, we will invest in solar panels so that we can offer a charging station and air conditioning in the bedrooms and kitchen from 2025.
Staying at Le Couvent is enjoying the charms of the area and tranquillity in nature. However, only a stone's throw away from cosy villages with the typical markets, monuments and sporting activities of the Lot-et-Garonne or Gers. Vibrant cities such as Agen, Toulouse and Bordeaux are also within easy reach.
Description of rooms:
The holiday home has 6 bedrooms: 2 on the ground floor and 4 on the first floor.
Downstairs there are 2 bedrooms. The first has two single beds and a separate bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. Bedroom 2 has a double bed with en-suite bathroom with shower and washbasin. There is also a separate toilet on the ground floor.
Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms. Bedroom 3 has a double bed and an en-suite bathroom (toilet, sink and shower). The room also has a sofa bed which can be converted on request and is suitable for max.2 children under 1.6m. (This way, a maximum of 14 people can stay overnight).
Bedroom 4 has a double bed, small desk and en-suite bathroom (toilet, washbasin, shower and free-standing bathtub).
The other 2 bedrooms on the first floor (both with 2 single beds) share a bathroom with shower and 2 washbasins. They also have a separate toilet. Depending on the composition of the group, these box springs can be joined to form one double bed (1.8x2.0m)
A cot and high chair are available and are covered on request.

The holiday home is located in Fieux, a commune of Francescas near Nérac. The village belongs to the Albret region in the south-west of the Lot-et-Garonne and only about 5 km north of the Gers department.
The holiday house is easily accessible by car, about 1050 km from Brussels of which 1030 km is motorway as far as Agen (A62). A detailed road description will be provided on request. We recommend taking the road via Montauban. This is quiet and cheaper (payage) than via Bordeaux.
A combination of Thalys and iDTGV from Brussels will get you smoothly to Agen, or directly to Bordeaux or Toulouse. You can then take a further train to Nérac or be picked up.
Toulouse airport is 130 km (1:25 to Fieux). One can fly to Bergerac (114 km or 1:37) or Bordeaux (140 km or 1:40). There are frequent flights especially to Touluse.
A taxi can pick you up at the station or airport, Nérac has local taxi companies available 24/7. You can also rent a car at the airport or in Nérac.

Leuk om aan te komen, was heel proper! Heel groot en luxueus huis. Zeer geschikt voor grotere groepen. En een ideaal zwembad met buiten douche voor verkoeling. Ligt afgelegen waardoor je je rust hebt, maar je kan zeker wel een uitstap doen en een naburig stadje verkennen.

We beleefden hier een prachtige tijd met 6 volwassenen en 6 kinderen. Het huis heeft alles wat we nodig hadden. De kinderen konden zowel binnen als buiten spelen. De keuken is superuitgerust. Het grote terras was onze favoriete plaats voor onze gezellige etentjes. Overdag hadden we een prachtig uitzicht en 's avonds werd het dan weer heel gezellig met de verlichting. We hebben heel hard genoten van het zwembad en de mooie tuin. Van Ingrid kregen we heel veel informatie over winkels en mogelijke uitstappen. In het huis zelf ligt ook een map met alle mogelijke uitstappen en mooie wandelingen. Kortom, we hebben het heel hard naar onze zin gehad in dit prachtige huis!

Zeker een aanrader! Het huis is erg ruim, proper en prima uitgerust met alles wat je nodig hebt voor een comfortabel verblijf. De tuin is werkelijk prachtig en biedt een adembenemend mooi uitzicht op de Pyreneeën. Perfect om te ontspannen en te genieten van de omgeving. Wij komen graag nog eens terug!
Restaurants, food & wine
Your taste buds will also celebrate with the tomatoes of Marmande, the famous plums of Agen, foie gras and la tourtière (apple pie made of puff pastry). The region is also famous for growing fruit and vegetables. The melons of Fieux are to be savoured!
The Albret grows Buzet red wine in the north and the world's oldest fine brandy in the south: La Flamme de l'Armagnac.
Throughout the region, you can go to producers' tastings. A must! You will be welcomed with open arms. Don't miss the nocturnal markets during the summer (in Nérac, Mézin, Lavardac,...) if you want to taste local products in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. A local band provides southern musical notes. Albret Tourisme publishes a guide with the dates of these and other events every summer and is available in the holiday cottage.
Activities
Le Couvent is located in the Albret, in the south-west of the Lot-et-Garonne near the Gers. The people here know what enjoyment is. Whether you love nature, like to relive a chunk of history or want to indulge your taste buds, you'll get your money's worth here.
Punctually at noon, the bells of the local church can be heard ringing in Le Couvent, where you jump in at the start of the mapped-out walk in Fieux. Along with more than 400 other walks, these can be downloaded. They are also available for free at the tourist office in Nérac. We have already prepared the walks from the neighbourhood in the holiday cottage. In the Jardins de Coursiana in Romieu (18 km) you can take a lovely walk and afterwards have a cup of coffee or tea on the terrace and eat an ice cream from the fruit of this garden.
For the sporty cyclist, the varied and undulating landscape with vineyards, orchards, forests and sunflower fields is a nice challenge. Those who prefer a flat route with the family will find the perfect ride along the Canal de la Garonne and can enjoy the green surroundings, sometimes referred to as "little Tuscany", in a more relaxed manner. You can rent electric or standard bikes at several places in the area, addresses can be found in the holiday home. There are also trails for horses and mountain bikers.
Avid fishermen can go to one of the many small rivers such as la Baïse, la Gélise, le Galoup,...the canal, or the small lakes in the area such as in Lamontjoie. Boating can be done in Nérac on the Baïse with the Croisières du Prince Henry where the guide will teach you all about the history and boat trade of the region. The Lot-et-Garonne has some 200 km of navigable waters. You can also explore the Garonne or Baïse nearby by kayak. We prefer the trip on the 2 rivers from Lavardac with a chance of spotting an otter.
If you are more into adventure, head to the Walibi park in Roquefort (18 km) or the lake in Lamontjoie. The Fontirou caves are a little further in Castella (43 km), but definitely worth a visit.
The historical heritage near Fieux is also to be enjoyed. Popular towns nearby are Nérac at 9 km, Lectoure, Condom and Vianne. Worth a trip, are the Gallo-Roman villa of Séviac in Montréal, followed by Larressingle or the "little Carcassonne" of the Gers and the former Cistercian abbey of Flaran in Valence-sur-Baïse.
The Lot-et-Garonne and nearby Gers offer something for everyone. Information on local events and attractions during your stay in Le Couvent can be found in the holiday home and the tourist office of Nérac or Condom.
If you prefer to stay in Le Couvent, you can have fun playing board games, a game of American billiards or table football in the summer living room. If you prefer reading a book from the library or following the Tour de France on TV, the winter living is your choice. Our daughter prefers baking cake or chocolate biscuits in the kitchen.
Outside, you can play petanque or table tennis, surf the net, or just enjoy the view. You can romp in the large garden, tan on the sun terrace or venture a splash in the private pool.
In the evening, you can have a pleasant time by the atmospheric lighting on the aperitif terrace near the kitchen, on the dinner terrace near the BBQ or with your feet in the water by the pool.

Additional price info and offers
You can rent the monastery from the end of April to the end of September. From July to August, you rent it by the week, starting on Saturday each time. For the other months, a proposal can be worked out for a different period. Send us a request for your desired period and we will quickly send you the corresponding price.
The rental price includes: bed linen (bottom sheet, pillowcase, duvet cover), bath linen (2 small and 1 large bath towel per person), kitchen linen, fuel, electricity and use of washing machine and tumble dryer.
Free wifi.
A portable cot and high chair are available.
The rental price does not include compulsory final cleaning (180 Euro) and tourist tax.
Change of bed linen on request during stay (10 Euro/bed)
Beach towels for poolside to be brought by yourself.
You are welcome on Saturdays from 16h.
The deposit is arranged directly with the landlord and amounts to 750 Euro. It will be transferred to the landlord's bank account together with the final payment slip and refunded after inspection of the property or at the latest within 15 days of departure. The day of departure, the holiday home is expected to be free at 10am.
