La Catusse sits in the countryside just above the village of Bourgougnague and is accessed by a good road from the D1, midway between Lauzun and Miramont-de-Guyenne in the Lot et Garonne region. The Dordogne border and the closest of the many pretty bastide towns in the area, Eymet, are only 7km away. The gite is a stand alone property with it's own private terrace and direct access to the heated 10 x 5m pool. The owners stay in the nearby farmhouse. The 1.5 acres garden is mainly grass and is surrounded by plum orchards and farmland. Table tennis, table football, swings and a boules court are also on site.

Restaurants, food & wine
Being in the Bordeaux wine producing area means there are a lot of wine tours and tastings on offer. St Emilion, about an hour away, is the most famous of the 21 appellations in the area and the world heritage site is definitely worth a visit. The narrow streets with their numerous wine shops, cafes and restaurants provide a beautiful setting and the journey through the vineyards on the wine train is not to be missed. Closer to home, around Bergerac, many of the local Chateaux and Caves offer free tastings and tours; Monbazillac being one of the best.
There are many good restaurants within easy reach of La Catusse varying from honest French cooking to haute cuisine.
Activities
Beaches/Swimming/Canoeing/Kayaking
The Atlantic coast is about a 2 hour drive away but there are a number of closer lakes with beaches for swimming. There are also a number of municipal swimming pools in the surrounding area and even a few waterparks about an hour’s drive away. It’s also possible to canoe and kayak on the nearby Dropt and Garonne rivers as well as on the more challenging Dordogne.
Cycling
Is a great way of exploring the gently rolling countryside as the many roads meander amongst the fields, vineyards and villages.
Golf
The nearest course is 9 holes and located at Tobeboeuf (15km) but if you want an 18 hole experience Chateau de Vigiers (27km) and Villeneuve-sur-lot Golf and Country Club (33km) are within easy reach.
Horseriding
There are a number of stables within a short drive.
Tennis
The nearest tennis courts are in Lauzun(5km).
Walking
The rolling gentle countryside provides a number of good local walks over a variety of different distances.
- Near hiking trails
- Near ATB trails
- Near riding

Further remarks
La Catusse is situated 5kms from Lauzun, a small town with ATM, baker, butcher, 2 restaurants, small supermarket; and 5km from Miramont de Guyenne, a larger town that has more of all of the above plus bigger supermarkets. Technically in the Lot et Garonne departement but sitting on the Dordogne and Gironde borders in the Aquitaine region, La Catusse is a great base for exploring one of the most beautiful areas in France.
Eyemet (8km) is the closest of the many pretty bastide towns in the area. They each have a good selection of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and most have a weekly market. Issigeac’s (24km) Sunday market is definitely one of the best. In July and August there are also night markets available and “tables gourmandes” in many local villages. This is street dining offering visitors the chance to sample locally produced wines and foodstuffs.
Bergerac (30mins)is the closest “big” town with its picturesque old centre and Bordeaux is only 90 minutes away by car. The city is a World Heritage Site and was voted Europe’s best destination in 2015 so offers something for everyone.
