The house
For over a decade, Gîte Ducel (see elsewhere on this site) has been a tried, trusted and highly regarded destination for those who love peace, space and nature. Ducel2, or the Faraway Cottage, certainly doesn't fall short of that. Tested and (more than) approved by experienced ducel-goers, this gîte is now available for rent to everyone!
Hard to imagine that just a few years ago this unique cottage was hidden under rampant wild vine and unruly blackberry bushes. Located at the edge of the property, with wide views on all sides over the rolling hills, you are in the midst of the Arcadian landscape of the Lot-et-Garonne. Surrounded by fields and bushes, with a village in the distance, and here and there an old farmhouse, the concept of a house with a through lounge takes on a very special meaning here. Just take your binoculars with you, because here you can watch the deer jumping from the bench at the edge of the woods.
With a sun terrace on one side and a shaded terrace on the other, you are always in the right place. In complete privacy, you have a good part of the grounds at your disposal, sheltered by trees and bushes, the vegetable garden and a veritable bamboo forest. You feel as if you are far away from civilisation and can completely relax here. Lazing around under a tree, reading or painting in the leafy garden full of herbs and flowers, a walk in the beautiful surroundings, good food, a glass of wine... And when you gaze at the infinite starry sky in the evening, everything becomes wonderfully relative.
On holiday with friends or family and still have your own place.
Ducel has two spacious two-person cottages about a hundred metres apart, each with its own privacy, out of sight of each other and out of earshot. An ideal place to go on holiday with friends and still have your own little spot. Fun! Going out together! But the thought of having to spend day and night together might also put you off...
Nice to start the day in your own rhythm, while the others might already be out and about. One day it's extensive barbecuing at your place, and the next day you're welcomed by your friends. Today we all go to the flea market and tomorrow we do nothing at all. You name it.
For this construction, it is important to be on time, because the gîtes are not always available at the same time.

Het is een fantastisch huisje, goeie energie en met liefde gemaakt en ingericht. Daarnaast is het ook erg praktisch, genoeg haakjes ruimte voor de spullen, prima badkamer enz. En super schoon!
Chiel is een attente host, betrokken en zorgzaam. Had wat goede tips (leuke marktjes en wandelingen in de buurt) en heeft veel zorg voor de nabije omgeving (dat zie je aan de verzorgde tuin, moestuin en bloemen). Ook het zwembad is heerlijk als t heet is. Er zijn genoeg goeie stoelen waar je je kan ontspannen. Al met al: wij komen zeker een keer terug. Als we een hoger cijfer dan een 10 hadden kunnen geven, dan hadden we het gedaan! Wat een fantastische gîte is dit, en wat een lieve gastheer! Chiel houdt van zijn plek onder de zon, en terecht ook, want wát een mooie plek heeft hij ervan gemaakt :-) We hebben genoten van het wonderschone uitzicht, van de verschillende zitplekjes, van het zwembad voor de o-zo-fijne plons op warme dagen, van alle informatie die klaarligt met kaarten en wandelroutes, van de wijn ;-) en natuurlijk van het prachtig verbouwde, sfeervolle en brandschone huisje met mooie badkamer en keuken en superfijn bed. Wij vonden het een feest om hier te verblijven! Mocht je je bedenkingen hebben bij het feit dat er een andere gîte op het terrein is: laat die maar varen want je merkt er niets van -- je hebt in beide gîtes alle rust en privacy. Onze hond, een flinke en al wat oudere dame, was welkom en heeft zich met al die wandelingen (wandelingetjes...) en schaduwplekjes onder de notenboom of de enorme lavendelstruiken net zo vermaakt als wij. In de tuin zie je heel veel (kolibrie)vlinders en in de avondschemering komen de reeën en zwijnen het veld op. Verrekijker mee dus! Genoeg te zien en doen in de omgeving, leuke marktjes. Kortom: een 11! Dankjewel Chiel!

Wat een rust, wat een uitzicht, wat een mooi huisje, wat een schitterende plek, we hebben hier iedere minuut genoten. Heerlijk bed, mooie badkamer, zeer vriendelijke en attente gastheer, kortom alles is hier 100% top.

For those who love the peace and simplicity of the French countryside, lazing around under a tree, reading or painting in the leafy garden full of herbs and flowers, walking in the beautiful surroundings, good food, wine, watching the sun go down red behind the green hills, followed by a sparkling blue sky.
There are many interesting and pleasant daytrips to be made in the near and wide surroundings. The Lot-et-Garonne, with its medieval 'bastides', churches and castles hidden in a Tuscan hilly landscape, offers many cultural excursions, with in the summer all kinds of festivals and expositions and every village has its market, its restaurant, its terrace.
The Dordogne with its prehistoric sights is a stone's throw away, but also the world heritage of Bordeaux is not far. Or a little further away, the ocean with fashionable seaside resorts such as Arcachon and Cap Feret, the famous oyster farms, the enormous dunes of Pyla or for example the vast bird reserve of Le Teich. And then come back home to the peace and quiet of la campagne...

Overwintering or retreat
Ducel2 is for rent year-round, even in the winter months. It is well insulated and radiators and a robust wood stove make it wonderfully comfortable in no time. Because even though the winters here are mild, it can still freeze...
For those who can afford it, the gîte Ducel is an ideal place to retreat to for a while, to come to your senses, to let your thoughts run free... Or on paper; or on canvas. Or just do nothing at all. You even have the possibility of having your meal prepared. And you can be sure that we eat well here, with or without a diet.

Prices for retreat/hibernation (minimum four weeks) by arrangement.
Prices during the summer season include electricity.
Outside the summer season there is a fixed price for electricity of 50Kwh per week; above that you pay 15ct per Kwh. Expect to pay about 5 euro firewood per day.
