The house
La Fermette du Bandiat is a farmhouse dating from 1696, located atop the hill Montbrandeix and surrounded by our 13 ha nature reserve.
The traditional stone farmhouse has a surface area of 55 square metres and is completely detached and central to the yard.
In the house there is an impressive fireplace that was once used for roasting shot game and baking bread.
La Fermette has two generous terraces where you can enjoy the beautiful views until late in the evening, making your stay on Montbrandeix hill more pleasant.
On the south side a terrace with robust hardwood garden furniture, parasol, and a stone BBQ for your own use.
On the north side a terrace with lounge set, bistro set and sun loungers. Views over meadows, woods and horses.
Our long private driveway gives access to several hiking, equestrian and cycling trails.
The tastefully decorated farmhouse is single-storey and has a cosy living/dining kitchen, a dining table with four chairs, a bar with two bar stools and a wood-burning stove set in a strikingly large granite fireplace.
The well-equipped open kitchen has a 4-burner built-in hob, combination microwave oven, fridge-freezer, Nespresso, filter coffee machine and kettle.
Adjacent to the kitchen, is the living room with the second seating area. Two-seater sofa, easy chair, coffee table and extra chairs to enjoy and/ or watch T.V. ( Canal Digital ).
Adjoining the living room is the sleeping area, a high-quality double box spring, dimmable good reading lights, 2 bedside tables, wardrobe.
Year 2023
Our last major project is being realised: a stylishly decorated modern bathroom with walk-in shower, rain shower and toilet.

The quiet village of la Chapelle Montbrandeix is located in the heart of "Hidden France", the region in the Limousin/Périgord National Park.
Just a few kilometres away, the Dordogne River begins. In the surrounding area, you will find numerous chestnut and oak forests, rolling hills, beautiful lakes and waterfalls. The lakes, some with a sandy beach, offer opportunities for swimming, fishing and water sports.
The trout-rich river "Le Bandiat" has its source just outside our grounds and meanders through our vast natural area, consisting of heathland, woods and meadows, inhabited by deer, squirrels, martens, red fox, wild boar and birds of various plumage, the owl, cuckoo, hoopoe, falcon, buzzard and many songbirds. It is a pleasure to hear the nightingale sing its song in one of the century-old oaks in our yard.
On a clear night, you have a view of the impressive starry sky. It is special to experience what a luminosity the moon gives, as there are no influences from lampposts and other illuminated objects.
You are far away from busy tourism here. You will certainly not lack for interesting excursions.
A post office and restaurant/bar are just a few steps away. You will find more restaurants and supermarkets just a few kilometres away.
We have a kitchen garden based on permaculture. This offers a multitude of vegetables and fruits.
You can knock on our door daily for a delicious freshly laid free-range egg.

We hebben twee onvergetelijke weken beleefd in Montbrandeix.
Een fijn en gezellig en ook super compleet huisje waar alles gelijkvloers is.
De omgeving is overweldigend. Achter het huisje wandelen 3 paarden wat veel rust uitstraalt.
De beide terassen bij de gite zijn gezellig en comfortabel. Zowel zon als schaduw en overal geweldig uitzicht en RUST.
Dorpjes en steden in de buurt die de moeite waard zijn om te bezoeken.
Veel wandelpaden, zwemmeren dichtbij en 3 supermarkten die op een korte afstand liggen.
Uit eet gelegenheden genoeg. Ellen en Jaap weten alle fijne en mooie plekken.
Beiden zijn zeer gastvrij en super behulpzaam.
We kunnen bijna niet in het kort omschrijven hoe fijn we het hebben gehad.
Vast staat is dat we terug gaan want we hebben al het moois dat er is in de omgeving nog lang niet gezien, en we willen nogmaals genieten van de rust en het fijne huisje.

Het knusse boerderijtje "La fermette du Bandiat" is een fijne plek om tot rust te komen, maar met genoeg te beleven en te bezoeken in de omgeving. Ellen en Jaap zijn een hartelijke en behulpzame gastvrouw en gastheer. 2 heerlijke weken gehad.

We hebben een kleine 3 weken vertoefd op domein Montbrandeix en genoten van de intense stilte, de prachtige oude bomen en de ruimte om ons heen, echt een paradijsje! Wij zaten zowel in Le Fournie als in Fermette de Bandiat en beide Gites bieden wat nodig is om je comfortabel en op je gemak te voelen en zijn met liefde en aandacht gerestaureerd en ingericht. Bij de Fermette is alles gelijkvloers en geniet je van een nieuwe heel bijzonder mooie badkamer! Ellen en Jaap zijn de zeer gastvrije en behulpzame eigenaren. Als je van privacy houdt dan vind je die. Ellen en Jaap staan altijd open voor een leuk en gezellig gesprek. Een echte aanrader.
Restaurants, food & wine
The region is known for the honest, tender meat of the Limousin cows, the foie gras, the chestnuts, the hams of the Cul-Noir pigs and the numerous edible mushrooms.
La Chapelle Montbrandeix - Ches Jules (five minutes' walk) good food, reservation required.
Saint Saud - Hostellerie St. Jacques. Well worth a visit if you like fine cuisine. A restaurant with artistic decor and beautiful outdoor garden.
Rochechouart - Hotel de France.
Marval - les Feuillardiers. Throughout the year, plat de jour or à la carte (at lunchtime).
Champagnac la Rivière - la Gare
The nearest wine regions are, Charente, Charante Maritieme and Bergerac.
Activities
The region is known for its castles and historical monuments, such as caves with prehistoric paintings. You can fish, canoe, swim and windsurf on the nearby rivers and lakes. There are various hiking and cycling routes.
Hiking - pilgrim route St. Jacques de Compostella, the GR 4 is in the immediate vicinity, 1 km from the farm. Others are the GR 48 & 36.
Cycling - recommended is a sports/mountain bike with multiple gears, the roads are for the somewhat trained cyclist.
fun is the vélorail route, where you cycle a completely flat piece over a former train route
of course you can also explore the surroundings on an electric bike. We are happy to help you with this.
Chalus and Nontron - rental of electric bicycles
Swimming : lake of St. Estèphe, Milhaguet, Mialet, St. Mathieu and le Grand Lac in St. Saud.
Horse riding - recommended is Ecurie des Forêts in Cussac. The contact can be arranged by us.
Golf
La Chapelle Montbrandeix lies on the "Richard lion's heart" route, which includes several castles, such as le Chateau Montbrun in Dournazac. Three are within cycling distance.
The nearest large city is Limoges, capital of Limousin, famous for its porcelain. The "butcher's quarter" of Limoges has beautiful medieval buildings. It is a nice city for shopping, there are terraces, an aquarium, parks, botanical garden, architecture.
Only 15 minutes drive away you will find the village of Piégut, where on Wednesday mornings one of the most varied weekly markets in the area is held with various regional products. Not to forget the other farmers' markets, brocantes, vide-greniers and French summer festivals.
Other places worth seeing in the area are Rochechouart with a contemporary art museum, Brantôme, the Venice of the Périgord, Bordeilles, where you can canoe from Brantôme to Bordeilles and Périgueux , the capital of the Dordogne with medieval streets and buildings.

Further remarks
Our domain Montbrandeix is located on the border with the Dordogne, without the hustle and bustle of the Dordogne, but with all sights and activities within your reach.
There is a second gîte Le Fournie well away from the farm. This one is completely hidden from view by high hedges.
