The house
Come and enjoy this atmospheric century-old house, with brand-new kitchen, spacious sitting room, swimming pool of 12 by 6 metres, large garden in the sun or under trees or umbrellas in the shade, the lovely weather and the coolness in the house thanks to the enormously thick walls. The house is said to be 16th century and the metre-thick walls are fortifications, indicating that the building originally served an important function.
On the ground floor is a 60 m2 living room with a piano with nice warm sound, (dining) table and antique cabinet on one side. The other side is a large sitting area of three sofas, with a TV (also Dutch channels). With large parties, the best place to sit is in the 30 m2 dining room at the large eight-person dining table, or in the garden of course at the extendable garden table under the 'shade tree'. Two pairs of sliding glass doors lead from the living room to terrace and back garden. The house has two fireplaces; not necessary in summer but very atmospheric. There are paintings everywhere, mostly Dutch scenes. Besides the necessary furniture, there is a CD player.
A brand new kitchen will be installed in autumn 2024. [The former (small) kitchen will then become a pantry for the time being. This will offer the usual conveniences, including a Miele dishwasher, a 4-burner butane cooker, an electric oven and two fridges. There is ample equipment for large parties, including (lots of) pans, crockery, cutlery and numerous additional items. In the hall is an extra cupboard with household items and microwave oven.
The antique staircase takes you to the next floor with 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. There are summer duvets, pillows and flannel mattress covers for all beds. There are also woollen blankets for those who prefer. You should preferably bring your own bed linen and kitchen linen (i.e. bed sheet, duvet cover, pillowcase, hand and tea towels). If you really can't, please contact me and I'll see what I can do.
The pink bedroom has its own bathroom en-suite, with shower, sink and toilet. The double bed there is 180 cm wide and 2 metres long (two 90 cm mattresses), with twin-size duvet. The master bedroom was recently renovated and now has a wooden floor. Here there is also a balcony overlooking the back garden and pool and a double bed (made up of 2 single beds of 90 by 190 cm), with twin-size duvet. Next to it is a spacious (green) bedroom with 2 single beds of 90 by 190 and single duvets. From here you can see the back garden as well as the medieval church and the landscape beyond. These 2 bedrooms share a bathroom with bath, shower, washbasin and a separate w.c. The master bedroom has a wardrobe/walk-in closet which is also storage space for blankets and pillows, 2 cots, high chair, ironing board and iron. (There is also a small area there that is for the owners and thus private).
The other wing of the first floor contains 2 smaller bedrooms, each with 2 single beds 190 cm long and 90 cm and 80 cm wide respectively. There are single duvets here. I myself also like to use the small room overlooking the church as a study. A simple shared bathroom belongs to these rooms, with shower, wash basin and a separate toilet. The attic is only used for the boiler and as private storage.
The shed contains a Miele washing machine and freezer, garden tools and lawnmowers. Use of the mower tractor only by arrangement.
We are always renovating. On the ground floor, all windows and window frames have been renewed with aluminium and double glazing. The bedroom windows are fitted with mosquito nets for a buzz-free night's sleep. The master bedroom has had a complete makeover. This spring, the balcony was renewed, the tiled floors (carreaux de gironde) were professionally cleaned and waxed, and transformation of the dining room into a spacious living kitchen will follow in autumn 2024.
Because of corona issues that are now only in the background, there is a small risk that you may not be allowed to go to France for a holiday. I have decided not to participate in the rebooking scheme" for which Gites offers the possibility. However, if you are not allowed to go to France as a tourist because of the corona pandemic, I will refund you the rent. You will then only pay a small amount to Gites. Gites has been informed of this.

Surroundings
The holiday home is located in the cute village of Landerrouet-sur-Segur and has grounds of about 1800 m2, entirely enclosed by farmers' fencing and a wall about 80 cm high on the street side. In the back garden and by the pool, there is no overlooking and you have a lovely wide view. There is plenty of lawn to play and laze on. Decorated with Mediterranean shrubs and trees. There are two terraces, various garden furniture, parasols, and at the back of the garden a larger tree that provides shade and under which a lovely summer breeze usually blows. There are an outdoor ping-pong table, picnic tables, and a simple barbecue.
50 metres from the house are the village tennis court, a boules pitch, a small playground and picnic tables. You are also welcome here.
Friendly rolling varied landscape with a variety of agricultural destinations. (Vineyards, orchards, especially plum and walnut orchards, fields of maize and sunflowers, meadows with cows and horses, forestry).
Little tourism. Quiet friendly atmosphere. People here take their time: you can really relax here. The village itself is lovely, quiet, with well-kept houses and yards and it has about 100 inhabitants. In the region there are some slightly larger towns, often characteristic with some medieval houses and in the "bastides" arcades around a square square. Many Romanesque churches, some abbeys, cast-iron market halls, several ancient wind and water mills. Particularly in high season, there are exhibitions and classical or jazz concerts here and there. The markets are fun and are listed in the book in the house. If you really want extensive shopping or to see more architecture and museums, you have to go to Bordeaux (one hour away by car, or take the train from la Reole). The picturesque town of Saint Emillion - famous for its beautiful red wines - is also worth a visit (45 minutes' drive).

Reviews
Rolieke Seghers-Cents from Terheijden,
Kortom, genoten!
Trudi beemster from Bovenkarspel,
Maericke van der Burg from De Bilt,
Restaurants, food & wine
There are many delicacies for sale in the supermarkets but especially in the markets. These are mainly farmers selling their own delicious seasonal products. The information folder in the house contains descriptions of restaurants. At our favourite (in la Reole) you eat very well, you sit in a pleasant ambiance, inside or outside, and you are served well and finally you do not pay too much at all. In Monsegur, there are also several options and you sit under the arcades overlooking the famous cast-iron market hall.
Of course, there is a lot of good wine for sale: both in supermarkets and in "caves cooperatives" as well as at the wineries / en chateaux du Bordelais.
Activities
Swimming: in your own 6 by 12 metre pool
Making music at home: there is a fine piano with a nice warm sound and a music stand and some sheet music (piano and vocals).
Laze and play in the garden, for example on the ping-pong table.
Walking and horse riding: beautiful and very slightly hilly surroundings. Varied. Many marked trails with descriptions (booklets in the house).
Golf: at Langon, and Marmande, both 20 km away. The courses are quite small. Pleasant atmosphere. You can also get a bite to eat there.
Bicycles: for hire in Sauveterre (from here a cycle path runs along the former goods railway line). Bordeaux also offers good cycling. Even "les Bordelais" do it!
There is a shuffleboard in the house and some games.
There is a paved village tennis court 50 m from the house. You may use this. Unfortunately, maintenance has lagged behind in recent years so it no longer lends itself to serious tennis play. However, there is an excellent playground there for the little ones. A well-maintained and freely accessible tennis court is located in the neighbouring village, a 5-minute drive away.
Also visit the cosy markets in the surrounding towns: la Reole, Monsegur, Sauveterre, Langon.
The city of Bordeaux and Saint Emillion and also Bergerac are worth a visit. Closer to home, a marked walk through la Reole is interesting.
Language courses can be found in Bordeaux, e.g. France Langue.
Above all, enjoy the rural tranquillity, the slower pace of the French countryside and its conviviality, the beautiful starry skies, delicious food and fine wines!

Further remarks
The pool measures 6 x 12 m, has built-in steps at the 90 cm section and slopes to a depth of 240 cm. The "menhirs" flanking the pool on two sides give it a rustic character.
The bath can be closed with an electrically operated roller shutter. Kindly keep an eye on it: Is the water level right? Does the water look fresh and clear? Does the little robot need to enter the pool once in a while to do cleaning work? The water is kept clean by an electrolyser that converts salt into sodium and chlorine. The chlorine level is therefore low and therefore kind to eyes, ears and skin.
Additional price info and offers
We ask that you leave the house in good condition and tidy. (I.e. that the bins are empty and all other rubbish has been removed and that nothing has been left in the cooker, on the countertop and kitchen table. Is there anything left in the dishwasher? If so, turn it on before you leave. The bathroom and kitchen will be cleaned by the maid and she will also vacuum. There will be no extra charge.
Of course, she needs time and space to do her job. This means that you are welcome from 16:00 on the Saturday of arrival, and that the house must be vacated by 10:00 on the day of departure.
For rentals longer than 1 week, the rent can be reduced. Ask for the discount!
