The house
La Maison du Lac**** gite is found in the beautiful region of the Dordogne in the south west of France, in the peaceful hamlet of Les Lièvres 🐇. The property is surrounded by local wine producers and well placed between St Emillion and Bordeaux and Bergerac.
The gite has four double bedrooms, two with beautiful ensuite, there is also a family bathroom fully equipped with bath and shower. On the ground floor the large kitchen, dinning area and lounge, which is perfect for family entertaining, leads out onto a calm, private terrace and private secure courtyard, with dinning al fresco. From the terrace you access the 9m x 5m saltwater pool, further terrace and the gardens, woods and private lake. La Maison du Lac is an ideal property for families and couples alike. It has been beautifully renovated and is fully equipped and furnished to a high standard. The house is spacious, light, peaceful and surrounded by countryside and set in a petit hamlet. The lake is full of a variety of fish and guests are welcome to fish (Please note: the lake is unfenced). The lake and gardens lead into the woods and children’s play area. As the area is so calm and unspoilt we are treated to an amazing array of wildlife. Each year, with the sun, comes our kingfisher pair to breed as do many other birds. Herons, golden oriole, woodpeckers, birds of prey, nightingales and owls are regular visitors too. La Maison du Lac has a chef, who will prepare food for you on the premises, excellent for special occasions or just a wonderful night in! He has several menu options available, and is reasonably priced.
La Maison du Lac is on the ‘route de vin’ which offers guests the chance to tour vin yards and sample local wines! However, if wine is not your thing you will find a market every day of the week offering a wonderful choice of fresh foods, from fruits and herbs to fresh seafood and locally produced olives! For a more active holiday there is also kayaking on the Dordogne and Gardonne rivers with several courses to suit all levels, golf at Saint Meard golf course, cycling, horse-riding and tree fun parks to name but a few! If you love sitting on the beach then the Lac de Gurson at only 5minutes by car is the place to be. It has swimming with lifeguard, a beautiful large sandy beach set among forests, restaurants and bars, children’s play area, horse riding and much more.
Situated in the south west of France and with a wonderful micro climate, this part of the Dordogne is known as the Perigord purple! There are four areas each given a colour, the purple represents the grapes grown all over the region. Although known the world over for its stunning wines the Dordogne is also famous for spectacular chateaux with amazing gardens, churches with famous organs, and restaurants with delicious food. The nearest seaside beaches are at Arcahon, 140 kms and worth a day trip, with the famous Dune de Pylar , beautiful sandy beach, designer shops and exquisite seafood restaurants. If you don’t want to travel so far there are many beach lakes all over the region. You can also find several waterparks and other fun days out without having to look far. The historic towns of Bergerac and Perigueux and famous vineyards of St Emilion are all within a 35 minutes’ drive or if you want to venture further, the exciting city of Bordeaux with its beautiful architecture and fabulous shops is 50 minutes’ drive. Dordogne valley to the east has many fascinating medieval villages and castles dating back from the 100 year war. Prehistoric caves and attractions.
