The house
Outside the village of Marcillac, near SARLAT, in the PERIGORD NOIR, DORDOGNE:
Quietly located detached gite of 40 m2 for 2 people in a 200-year-old restored stone building.
Layout:
Independent entrance via the terrace, living/sitting room with kitchenette, toilet, corner with washbasin, walk-in shower, bedroom with 2 good box-spring beds 80x200 cm.
Amenities:
Kitchenette with double sink, gas hob, fridge with freezer compartment, combi-oven with microwave, kettle, plancha, Senseo and regular coffee machine.
Living/dining area with dining table, sofa, armchair, storage cupboard.
The gite has thick natural stone walls, and actually stays perfectly cool in summer.
The fixed air conditioning (units in living room and bedroom) provides relief on the (very) hot summer days.
Terrace with garden table and chairs, partly covered, the other part under a 60-year-old vine. You overlook a sloping meadow and the forest edge (here you can spot deer, foxes... in the evening).

Our detached gite is on a quiet road.
We live in the detached house next door, but we both have our privacy.
The gite has its own terrace, and its own independent entrance with parking space
The gite has a garden or a meadow intended for private use by the tenants of the gite.
In Sarlat, 10 minutes from the gite, you will find all necessary shops and services
ALDI, Carrefour, Leclerc, Intermarché etc.

Our gite is located in the French region of the "Périgord Noir".
This area is traditionally known culinarily for local dishes based on duck, goose, game, truffle, mushrooms, cheese (e.g. Cabécou), walnuts and fruit.
A typical "Périgord" meal can be ordered in many local restaurants.
Many ingredients are also available in supermarkets, for the home cooks among you.
A sympathetic development in recent years is the shop "producteur local" or "les producteurs", where local farmers, growers, and other producers offer their wares in the form of a collective or cooperative. Quality is good, prices are often no higher than in the "supermarché", and the producer receives a higher return for his products than when selling to a chain store.
The "Périgord Noir" used to have its own wine production, nowadays "regional wine" comes from further afield:
Bergerac (including Monbazzillac, Pécharmant), the Lot (Cahors, Luzech), and of course the Bordeaux region.
A typical drink from the region is nut wine, or nut liqueur. Usually based on walnuts.
Activities
The PERIGORD NOIR offers numerous sporting activities in a green setting: hiking trails, cycling and mountain biking, and canoeing/kayaking on the Dordogne or Vézère rivers. Near the gite, the 1st hiking trail starts.

Nearby is SARLAT, the charming " capital " of the Périgord Noir with beautiful weekly markets and many old houses, streets and squares.
This is also where the "Voie Verte" runs, the cycle path built on the old railway line: nice and flat, and only for cyclists and hikers...
MONTIGNAC is also famous for its world-famous LASCAUX caves.
And in LES EYZIES, on the banks of the river Vézère, you will find numerous prehistoric sites, including the National Museum of Prehistory.
