The house
Lortal is an old farmhouse, located about eight kilometres from the medieval town of Belves in the hamlet of Doissat. For Dutchmen Renée and André van Soest, this is home. Our house is 250 years old and sits on 10,000m2 near Doissat, the capital of French walnut country in the Dordogne. Horse riding, fishing, golf, ballooning, hiking and much more to do locally. Lortal is a traditional Dordogne farmhouse converted to combine character and comfort, with views from the terraces and pool area. This holiday home consists of 2 buildings, the farmhouse and a smaller building, rented together for a capacity of 10 people.
On the ground floor is a large comfortable sitting room and a large fully equipped farmhouse kitchen and a staircase leading upstairs to the bedrooms. Also a bedroom (with access to a covered terrace, overlooking the garden and pool) with fixed air conditioning and bathroom (bath, separate walk-in shower, toilet). On the first floor a large double bedroom with fixed air conditioning (with its own new bathroom, with shower, toilet) and two double bedrooms (one with fixed air conditioning) with a new bathroom (shower, toilet). A total of 4 bedrooms (of which 3 with fixed air conditioning) and 3 bathrooms. The main house is available for 8 people. In addition to the main house, you also have access to the outbuilding (Petite Lortal). This cottage is also fully equipped and offers space for 2 people.
Extra features: 3 bedrooms with fixed air conditioning, dishwasher, washing machine, SAT TV, DVD and CD player, movie DVDs, music CDs, reading books, table tennis, other games, free WIFI internet, 2 sleeping accommodations in separate nearby gîte
Around the house several terraces, so that, depending on the position of the sun, warmth or coolness can always be sought; plenty of sun beds and chairs available.
Renewed private swimming pool of 10 x 5 metres, 1.0 metre deep and sloping to 1.80 metres with electric cover (legal security); no fence
Large private parking in front of the house
Located in the south-west of France in the beautiful Dordogne valley (Perigord Noir) in the famous "Golden Triangle" of Sarlat / Domme and Bergerac, our holiday home offers a great base for a special holiday.
We are a 4* accommodation.(max 5*) The stars are an official guarantee of quality and comfort. The new rating is awarded by the government after an extensive examination of the accommodation by independent experts.

Surroundings
In an area rich in history, scattered prehistoric caves, ancient castles, medieval towns and villages, food and wine are one of life's priorities. There are markets full of local fresh produce every day in one of the surrounding villages. The stalls are full of fruit and vegetables, local cheese, wine, fish, pates, clothing, kitchen utensils and bric-a-brac.

Reviews
TC from Toronto,
We visited the lovely Lortal as a family of 5 (kids aged 15, 12 and 9) together with two grandparents. The main house provided plenty of space for all. However the grandparents did appreciate their own little space across the yard. The house is cooled by AC units which provided relief on hot nights.
The garden is a beautiful and peaceful place to spend time at the pool with a book, having a drink or take a nap. If you’re quiet enough you’ll encounter the local deer who come visit frequently.
We spent most of our days enjoying the local markets, chateaux and villages. If the kids are into adventure there are lots of options for water sports, tree trekking and hiking/biking. Driving in this area is not for the faint of heart however.
The house provides a lot of information about the region including day trips, restaurants, grocery stores, markets etc.
Comment from Renée & André van Soest
Thanks very much for you kind review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at Lortal
Sarah Conolly from Tugford, Craven Arms, UK,
This was our second visit to Lortal.
Lortal (and La Petite Lortal) could not be more perfect for a family holiday. There were 10 of us (6 adults and 4 young children who were all under 10 yrs old). The main house accommodated the two young families perfectly (with most of the rooms air conditioned) and the grandparents had their own oasis over in La Petite Lortal ! The garden and swimming pool are fabulous. The children absolutely loved the pool, spending hours in and around it each day. There is also a climbing frame with swings and a wendy house... all very popular! We also loved the terrace. This is very spacious and shaded, we ate all our meals out there (very large dining table) and relaxed there during the day and in the evening.
The local area is beautiful. Belves, the closest market town, is delightful and there are numerous possibilities for day visits to chateaux, beautiful towns and many activities for children within a very easy driving distance. We could not recommend Lortal more highly and are hoping to make a third visit in the future!
Lindy van den Hengel from Oss,
Restaurants, food & wine
Almost everywhere you will find restaurants that can satisfy all expectations with elaborate menus and local wines. We especially recommend trying the menu du jour at lunch; it is unbeatable value for money and almost universally delicious. Within an hour's drive are the vineyards of Bergerac or Cahors, where it is possible to taste some of the wines.
Also try to eat at one of the evening markets, the "marché nocturne". Many villages have their own food market on different evenings. This is a special experience and will certainly be worth repeating. Bring your own plate and glass (or hire one locally), walk along the many stalls and buy some food and drink and then sit down next to the French on the long rows of benches and tables. One of the best and most extensive is in nearby Belves.
