The house
La Boîte d 'Allumettes (= The Matchbox) is mainly furnished with Dutch design furniture such as Gerard vd Berg's Charly chairs. The master bedroom on the ground floor forms a separate wing and is very spacious. In addition to a double box spring, it contains a sofa and a spacious desk. This bedroom has a large walk-in closet with vanity unit and an Italian walk-in shower. The master bedroom also has its own toilet. Four patio doors open onto the terraces from here.
The spacious hall has (wardrobe) cupboards and gives access to the general toilet. The living room consists of various parts; a spacious kitchen with round table and five seats and a coffee corner, a kitchen area and a sitting area around the romantic fireplace. Also on the ground floor is the utility room with extra kitchenette, washing machine and freezer.
The two bedrooms to the first floor can both be accessed separately with their own staircase. Each bedroom has its own bathroom with toilet facilities. One with a bath and two sinks the other with a shower cubicle. The bedroom with bath also has a lovely south-facing balcony with stunning views of the surroundings and the spacious 12x6-metre heated swimming pool with wide walk-in steps.
On the grounds, there is a garage for three cars, so your car does not have to stand in the burning sun in summer, and a separate stone shed also for wood storage.

Between Angoulême and Perigieux on the border between the Dordogne and Charente departments lies the picturesque hamlet of Jaufrenie. This village belongs to the municipality of Champagne et Fontaine, but for daily shopping, the more touristy Villebois Lavalette is the place to go with its characteristic hilltop castle. On Saturday mornings there is a market under the historic wooden market hall, where you can enjoy fresh oysters with a suitable white wine and settle down on a terrace in the sun after a visit to the market.
Along the back garden of La Boîte d'Allumettes at a one-minute walk runs the river Lizonne. Here you can fish or be the starting point of a canoe trip on the more than 60 kilometres long river that runs through western France. Lovers of castles will also get their money's worth as the area is literally littered with historic buildings. Some are more beautiful than others and most are open to the public.... Aubeterre sur Drône and Brantôme are definitely worth a day trip, as well as the more famous Bergerac and Sarlat. In summer, farmers often grow sunflowers in the surrounding fields of La Boite d'Allumettes, which makes for beautiful views.

Restaurants, food & wine
On Saturday mornings there is a nice weekly market in Villebois Lavalette and on Fridays a larger market in Riberac with lots of fresh local produce. A range of restaurants can be found in nearby Verteillac, Villebois Lavalette and in smaller towns around Jaufrenie. On Tuesday mornings there is a lively market in Marieux, a 15-minute drive away. The paella at the fishmonger's market stall is a must and the cakes at the local bakery are finger-licking good. Lunch in the market square after visiting the market is a nice finish.
There are more than 10 nice French restaurants and bistros within a 15-minute drive. For example Chez Hannah in Cheval or L'Ecole at a 5-minute drive.
Activities
The villa is located in the hamlet of Jaufrenie and the beautiful tourist town of Villebois Lavalette is closest at a 10-minute drive. Here you will also find a large supermarket, restaurants, veterinarian, GP and several tourist attractions such as the castle of Villebois. In the tourist season, the local.very many activities are organised from knight's games to large flea markets. Every Saturday morning there is a market on the cosy partly covered historic wooden market square from the 13th century. But Bergerac and Sarlat are also easy to reach from La Boîte.d'Allumettes. The towns of Aubeterre sur Drone and Brantome are also nearby.
The Dutch neighbour writes books about this region on the border of the Dordogne and the Charente and his stories are well worth reading (Ikookik).and often include tourist and scenic walks in the area.

Further remarks
La Boîte d'Allumettes is only rented out to third parties a few weeks a year. An authentic villa with lots of character and optimal privacy. The large lawn of almost half an acre bordered by a metre-high laurel hedge is wonderful for your children and/or dogs to play in and for your daily jog you don't have to leave the grounds. The large covered veranda is a lovely place to have breakfast together in the morning and barbecue in the evening. The poolside terrace with loungers and parasol is another lovely place to sunbathe. As the house is higher than the surrounding area, you have stunning views from the terraces.
As the owner's wife is a visual artist and they ran a gallery together, the house is full of tasteful art.
The shaded north-facing terrace adjacent to the kitchen offers a lovely place to quietly read a book in the afternoon. If you do not park cars in the woodshed, it is also great for sitting or eating in the shade.
