The house
Our gîte, Le Coudoun, is a separate part of our house, with its own entrance. The house is a former farmhouse from the 18th century. The gîte has a south-facing terrace with a wide view over a hilly landscape, described by some as "paradisiacal", because of its absolute tranquillity and space. Apart from a parasol, the proximity of trees provides protection from the sun, which can be bright here in summer
The gîte is ideal for 2 people, a 3rd person is possible due to the presence of a comfortable sofa bed in the sitting/dining area.
The gîte was completely renovated in 2022, modern and colourfully decorated, well insulated, equipped with all comforts, while retaining its characterful atmosphere and the typical features of the French countryside. The swimming pool, which seems to blend into the landscape thanks to its round shape and natural stone edge, is filled with purified Dordogne water. Our 3-hectare site consists partly of forest and as hunting is not allowed here, deer are regular guests.
The layout:
The gîte has 2 rooms, both of about 40m2.
Downstairs is the dining/sitting area and a spacious kitchen with oven, microwave, dishwasher and a 4-burner gas cooker. The stairs are wide and easy to climb. Here is also the shower room and a toilet.
On the 1st floor is the bedroom with a washbasin and a 2nd toilet.
The bed is 200 x 160 cm, electronically adjustable and, if desired, the beds can be moved apart. Because of the thick walls ( 80 cm] it stays cool in the house for a long time, but there is an almost silent air conditioning ( or heating) available, by means of a heat pump. There is also an electric radiator.
What else you need to know;
The gîte offers a lot of privacy, but we ourselves are (mostly) present in another part of the house and garden. When there are guests, we mainly use the terrace on the west side of the house.

Badefols-sur-Dordogne is a lovely village with around 200 inhabitants in the Perigord Pourpre ( the colour of wine) Important: it has its own bakery and an esteemed restaurant overlooking the Dordogne. The nearest supermarket is 5 km away in Lalinde, a lively village, with a very good butcher/traitteur, bakers and restaurants, not to mention a large market on Thursday mornings. Lalinde also has a railway station with a direct connection to Bordeaux. (1.5. hours, by car at least 2 hours). The larger cities of Bergerac and Périgueux are 30 minutes and 1 hour away respectively. Bergerac has an airport with connections to Rotterdam, among others. In season almost daily.Besides being known for its beautiful rolling countryside, its wine regions, [Pecharment , Monbazillac] truffles and other culinary delights, this is also the area of castles and "Bastides". These are medieval fortified towns, with (mostly) square village squares and arcades, rich in history and impressive churches/cathedrals, but also with cosy catering, markets and cultural activities. In summer, there are often the cosy communal evening meals (nocturnes) there. Incidentally, these are also in many other villages. The bastides of Molière, Beaumont and Cadouin and St Avit de Senieur are within 10 km. Monpazier and Belvès a little further away. The famous prehistoric caves of Lascaux are towards Sarlat, about 40 km east. The lesser-known, beautiful caves of Maxange are 12 km away. Fans of canoeing, cycling and hiking will find plenty to enjoy here. In the gîte you will find information about what is worth visiting in the Perigord/Dordorgne and that is a lot.

Wij hebben 2 weken lang heel erg genoten van ons verblijf in Le Coudoun. De gite is zeer mooi en voor een koppel voorzien van alles wat nodig is om een aangename, ontspannende vakantie te beleven. Sybren en Marie-José zorgen er vanaf de ontvangst (eerste ontbijt, flesjes wijn en bier, versnaperingen, …) tot en met het vertrek (afsluitende apéro incl. fijne babbel) voor dat je het steeds naar je zin hebt en delen met plezier bruikbare tips. Ideale uitvalsbasis voor bezoekjes aan alle mooie plaatsjes in de Périgord (o.a Périgueux, Bergerac, Sarlat, Domme, .. met de wagen < 1 uur en Bordeaux per trein < 2 uur).

Heerlijk rustige vakantie gehad! Woning voorzien van alle comfort en mooi ingericht. Gastheer en gastvrouw aanspreekbaar voor alle vragen, maar ook zeer discreet. Top!

De woning is ruim, smaakvol en compleet ingericht. De tuin geeft zon en schaduw en vooral ook veel privacy. Sybren en Marie José zijn bijzonder gastvrij. Dat gecombineerd met de mooie omgeving, maakt dat we twee heerlijke weken hebben gehad in Le Coudon.
