The house

  • Quiet, rural area with some agricultural activity

The century-old Gîte is the first house in Pébru. With a private, fully enclosed garden on three sides and a wide view, it is lovely to stay here. In the charming living/sitting room, the French windows in the garden offer great comfort so it is easy to walk in and out. The room is laid out with a spacious corner sofa, a six-seater dining table and several cupboards. In the cupboards are ready: games, crockery, cutlery and anything else that might be needed for a carefree holiday. Swimming in our own 2,500 m2 natural lake is also a possibility.

Bedroom Rose has two romantic 90x210 single beds next to each other, a wardrobe and a large wardrobe to store all the clothes. Bedroom Bleu has two 90x200 single beds, a bunk bed with two berths and also two wardrobes. All single beds have a 150x200 duvet and all beds have double pillows. Both bedrooms have mobile electric heaters.

For everyday care, there is a hairdryer, an ironing board and an iron.
For further entertainment, there is reading material for everyone and a radio/cd player as possible musical wallpaper, but this is actually not necessary in such beautiful and inspiring surroundings.
Nice walks right from the Gîte on various routes that connect to the GR (Grand Randonnées) and after returning to eat all those delicious French cheeses while enjoying a fine wine, that is real enjoyment.

With the electric heater in the living room it is pleasant in no time on a colder day and in the evening the wood-burning stove can be lit to create an extra cosy atmosphere. The kitchen is fully equipped, with everything you need to prepare fresh French ingredients expertly. Refrigerator with separate freezer, microwave, electric juicer, toaster, coffee maker, kettle, gas cooker with oven and of course all other standard items such as cutlery, pots & pans, plates & glasses are amply represented.

Pébru is a hameau (hamlet) consisting of 5 houses. It lies between Argentat & Aurillac about a short kilometre from the N1120. A quiet farming area with widely spaced farms where people move their cows from pasture to pasture, often right through our village. The landscape is characterised by large hills or small mountains larded with meadows and woodland. The Gîte is the first house on the right in the village, our house the last, so there is little to no traffic, only from the residents and our guests.

The garden is completely enclosed and completely free on all sides. At the back of the Gîte there is parking space for the car. The small family campsite (10 pitches and 4 wooden Chalets) is a good 150 metres away. And our private lake is 800 metres away, nice swimming, fishing or private sunbathing are among the options here. There is something for everyone, holidaying together (as family or friends) is also possible, one in a tent on our campsite while the other chooses the luxury of the Gîte, comfort and a little more simplicity go hand in hand here.

In the immediate vicinity of the Gîte, there is vast nature while a twenty-minute drive away, the terraces on the quayside of Argentat beckon. To the other side, Aurillac (a thirty-minute drive away) also has plenty to see and do, a beautiful medieval town centre with all sorts of nice shops.

Whether it's peace and quiet and space sought or entertainment and activities, it's all on offer at our Pébru.

Heerlijke gite, grote aanrader.

Restaurants, food & wine

Various home-made ready-made meals, home-made jams, delicious quiches on request, fresh eggs and various unsprayed vegetables & fruits from our own garden are for sale. Throughout the year, the bread service is a real godsend, ordered in the evening, a delicious fresh croissant in the morning. And the restaurant just around the corner offers ready-made takeaway meals on weekdays.

For the tastiest duck breasts just cross the street and several times a week there are the most delicious markets in the villages around us. Wonderful local cheeses, a wide range of fruit and vegetables and of course the famous Limousin meat, including the cows that graze next to the gîte.

A few times a week Babs prepares various quiches and many other delicious dishes on request and in high season there is the possibility to join us for a home-made pizza cq bbq evening.

In both Argentat and Aurillac there are delicious restaurants, cosy terraces and weekly markets.
But also closer to home there is good food, hotel/restaurant Au Relais du Teulet at 4 kilometres has a very good cook but also the hobby cook can do well in Pébru, the kitchen of the gîte is fully equipped, even baking cakes is one of the possibilities.

Activities

Canoeing on the Dordogne, horseback riding through the beautiful green countryside, hiking right from the Gîte, along centuries-old connecting paths, along a swirling river or, on the contrary, through vigorously rolling meadows.
There is a lot to do at Pébru. A 5-day photography course, for instance, is also one of the possibilities.
With so much natural beauty all around and so much peace and quiet, it is a true holiday to stay with us. Swimming, fishing or sunbathing in and around our own lake of 2500 m will delight the less active holidaymaker, as well as enjoying all the goodies for sale at the various markets and farms around us.

Just an hour's drive away is the beautiful ski resort of the Lioran. This also makes the Gîte suitable for rental in the winter months. And with the wood-burning stove combined with the electric heaters, the cottage is so warm!

On our small family campsite, besides a beautiful play tree, there is more extensive tourist information about the area.
A couple of times a week Babs bakes quiches and other goodies on request, and in high season there is the opportunity to join the pizza cq bbq evening several times a week.
And every morning you can make use of the bread service, ordered in the evening before 18.00 means fresh bread, croissants and other goodies the next morning.
There are also fresh eggs, various ready-made (home-made) meals for sale and a cupboard full of home-grown fruit jams. In our backyard there is a vegetable picking garden, so a short walk will quickly provide you with a tasty meal for the evening.

Further remarks

As we have several accommodations in Pébru, a holiday with family or friends is also an excellent option. Staying on our family campsite while the other party chooses the comfort of the Gîte, both are possible. For the smallest visitor, Pébru is also a true paradise, the large climbing tree in the camping forest guarantees many hours of fun. With a site filled with also small guests, holiday friends are sure to be found, and all the collected toys provide some extra space in the car for our guests! In other words, mum and dad can also enjoy reading that one book in the hammock undisturbed.

Pébru has strongly changing seasons, in the summer months the temperature can easily reach 40 degrees, while in the winter months a thick layer of snow is no exception. But with a winter sports area an hour's drive away, that's certainly no impediment either.

Because Pébru is located on a small mountain (almost 600 metres), we always enjoy a slight breeze.
In the hot summer months this is a very welcome feeling, after one has been puffing at the market in Argentat, the "coolness" on the mountain is very pleasant. The region is not Mediterranean in terms of temperature, the area is very green, so a rain shower also occurs. But due to its location in the bowl of the Massif Central, we often have nice weather more quickly, the westerly winds blowing the bad weather on smoothly.
