The house
Sunrise cottage is the first of our 2 gites that you come to. The cottage is comfortably furnished. In the lounge area is a large Charentaise fireplace with woodburner. Seating is 2 x 2 seater sofa and a matching armchair. There is a flat screen TV with French and English free to air channels with DVD player and a selection of books, dvds and games.
The dining area has a large farmhouse table which seats 5 and a sideboard with all the crockery, cutlery, glasses and dishes that you will need. There is high chair for a baby/toddler.
In the kitchen is a double sink unit, gas range type cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer and washing machine and all the necessary pans and utensils and cool box.
The shower room has a shower area, WC and washbasin. There is a baby bath if needed.
The large double bedroom has a chest of drawers and bedside cabinet and an area for clothes hanging/storage space. The twin bedroom has a chest of drawers, bedside tables and a fitted cupboard for hanging clothes and storage. The third bedroom has a single bed and chest of drawers. All bedrooms have the traditional little floor level windows, exposed beams and roof windows with blnds.
Outside the front of the cottage is a patio and a terrace to the side. There is garden furniture, parasols and a barbecue. Surrounding the property is an acre of land, which is mainly grass. There is a 10 x 5m above ground pool complete with sundeck for you to be able to lie on a sun lounger at the same level as the water. We also have a boule court, table tennis , snooker table, darts etc. The whole outside area is fenced and has double gates for access. There are no immediate neighbours, the nearest being 500m away.
Special notice.
In low season (Beginning of September to end of June) surcharges apply for the use of electricity and wood pellets. An allowance of 4 bags of wood pellets and 21 euros of electricity per week will apply. For more information, please contact the owners.

If you are looking for a summer holiday in a tranquil location with your family and friends then you need look no further than Champ Giraud. Set on an acre of land surrounded by fields of sunflower and maize, with woods and quiet lanes for a leisurely stroll, early morning jog or a stroll to the bakery then this is the place for you. There is a pool for a swim or relaxing by plus plenty of space for other activities such as table tennis, billiards or a game of boule maybe. Verteuil has a beautiful turreted chateau that can be visited and sits on the Chatente river. Canoes maybe rented. Further afield is Futuroscope theme park of the moving image, Cognac for visiting the distilleries, Angouleme the city of the comic book, La Rochelle for its attractive old port, Monkey Valley where monkeys roam free amongst the visitors.

Dave en Liz zijn zeer aangename mensen en staan steeds voor je klaar. We hebben een geweldig verblijf gehad in Sunrise cottage. Het enige kleine minpuntje is dat de ontspanningsruimte (biljartafel en darts) heel verouderd was.

leuke week gehad bij Liz en Dave in Verteuil. Zeer uitgebreid ingerichte gite, alles met zorg uitgezocht, een fraai geheel. Rustige ligging op het platteland, prima om te fietsen en wandelen. Liz en Dave zijn perfecte 'hosts': discreet, niet opdringerig, maar met een geweldige 'will to please'.

Wij verbleven een week bij Liz en Dave. Zeer gastvrije mensen, een mooie cottage en een mooie omgeving. Gewandeld en kanotochten gemaakt op de Charente. Liz en Dave houden zich op de achtergrond maar met vragen kun je altijd bij ze terecht. We hebben een heerlijke week gehad.
Restaurants, food & wine
The nearby village of Vertetuil sur Charente is only a couple of km away with a good selection of shops, restaurants, tea rooms and bars; plus the possibility of a little tour around the chateau during the summer. The small town of Ruffec is 5km away and offers a bi-weekly market and a choice of supermarkets. There is a good selection of resaurants locally and we have identified these on our website.
Activities
Rural location but within walking distance to a village with bars and restaurants. Lots of tracks for walking and cycling. Locally there is a leisure area with a beach area, playground, restaurant and canoe hire. We have 3 bicycles that may be borrowed.

Further remarks
We live on site and are always happy to help but also know how to be discrete, you are on holiday and may prefer your own company. We have a Labrador cross dog who is very guest friendly.
