Nestled in the rolling French countryside this one-bedroomed property is designed as a place for you to relax, enjoy the beautiful weather (for which the region is famed), sample the delicious local food and wine and visit the abundant local attractions.

The property has lovely views over the village and from the pool terrace there are expansive views over the surrounding countryside. The large private swimming pool and associated pool terrace are for the exclusive use of guests.

The two-storey property comprises an open-plan kitchen/dining/living area (29m2) on the ground floor. The well-equipped kitchen zone incorporates a full-size fridge freezer, sink, dishwasher, gas hob and combination microwave oven. Other appliances include a Nespresso coffee machine, quality Dualit toaster and kettle, plus iron and board. The living area features comfortable seating and soft furnishings, plus a 103cm/43" Ultra HD 4K LED flat screen TV with satellite channels in English.

A wooden staircase leads up to a large bedroom (21m2) on the first floor with exposed beams, stonework and wooden floorboards. This room has views over the village. An 8,000 pocket spring mattress on the 150cm divan bed is designed to give an extremely comfortable night’s sleep and features 400 thread count Egyptian cotton bed linen. The en-suite bathroom (5m2) features a shower, wash hand basin, toilet and heated towel rail. Cotton bath towels and robes are provided for guests. The bathroom window looks out to the rear of the property and towards fields.

The gite benefits from full central heating and is offered with free Wi-fi. A selection of books and board games are available.

To the front of the property is a south-facing gravelled terrace that features a wooden bench, dining area, gas bar-b-q and an outdoor summer kitchen that provides welcome shade in the hot weather. The large in-ground swimming pool (9m x 4m) is located on a gated lower terrace at the opposite end of the building and this area features sun beds with cushions, a bench, large parasol, dining table and chairs, plus a solar heated pool shower. The pool is available May to September inclusive. Pool towels are supplied.

There is a seating area at the bottom of the garden which is bordered by a stream. Guests are welcome to relax in this tranquil space and observe the wildlife.

Gîte le Loriot is south facing and sits above the village of Poursac which has a 12th Century Romanesque church that is listed as a historic monument. Poursac is located in the Charente region of south-west France, an area renowned for its sunny climate, excellent produce, fields of sunflowers and Pineau de Charente - the fortified wine often served as an apèro. The village is set within a working farming community bordered by the picturesque L’Argentor river, with the larger Charente river close by. For local scenery you can expect stone properties with tiled roofs, broadleaf woodland, rolling fields and river valleys.

What can we add to all these great reviews? Nothing really...
Nice and warm welcome upon arrival by Caroline and David who are lovely (nice chats, tastefull homemade coockies, tomatos) but they are also very discreet.
A well equiped gite (very clean!) with everything you need to have a nice holiday. Poursac is a very small and quiet town but still backeries, supermarkets and restaurants are nearby. Lots of nice towns to visit in the neighbourhood.
The gite has a great private outside sitting area and pool where you can relax.
    We would defenitely recommend!

Restaurants, food & wine

There is a very good selection of local restaurants within easy reach of the gîte and the owners can make recommendations based on their own dining experience and that of other guests.

Activities

The area is particularly suited to those who enjoy being in the countryside. There are great walks from the door, plus the village is on the new V93 cycle route with easy access to other parts of the region’s cycle network - complimentary bicycles are provided for guests. Horse riding (5km), kayaking (9km) and flying ( aero club 19km) are available. The area will also be of interest to birdwatchers as, depending on the season - sightings of egrets, golden orioles, larks, great grey shrikes, kingfishers and cranes are possible.

Yoga classes run in Aunac (6km) on a Tuesday morning and in Verteuil-sur-Charente (3km) on a Friday morning. Advance registration is required.

The property is well placed for visits to the privately owned local chateaux (Le Chateau de Bayers at Aunac, Le Château de Verteuil at nearby Verteuil-sur-Charente and Le Chateau de Rochefoucauld) . The cities of Angouleme, Limoges and Poitiers (home to Futuroscope) are easily accessible, as are the towns of Ruffec, Cognac and Saintes. The area is well provided for by local markets and ‘brocantes’ (flea markets) are regular weekend events across the region. The nearest main town is Ruffec (10km) and this offers a good choice of supermarkets and has a thriving produce market on both Wednesday and Saturday.
