The house
La Maison Benaise, our two-hundred-year-old farmhouse, has recently been completely renovated while retaining many authentic elements. The farm is situated on the border of the Charente and the Périgord. On the ground floor there is a cosy living room with a wood stove and a modern open kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with a gas hob, microwave, fridge-freezer, Senseo coffee machine, kettle and all utensils needed for cooking. Both basic products (coffee, tea, sugar) and household products (washing-up liquid, bin liners) are provided. Linen is also included in the price (sheets, towels, tea towels). The bathroom has a large shower, a sink and a toilet.
On the first floor there is a bedroom with a double bed (King size) and for the children two single beds.
Sun terrace with barbecue, games for children and books are all available. The garden (1000 m²) is fully fenced in, very convenient with small children or the dog.
A little anecdote: 'benaise' is a typical expression of the Charente, meaning 'a feeling of well-being'!

The perfect location for a relaxing and natural holiday!
Our farm is easily accessible both by toll road and by the national route, the latter often leading through beautiful landscapes and villages.
The nearest airports are Limoges (about 1.5 hours drive) or Bordeaux (about 2 hours drive). Our terrain is rural but easily accessible. It is situated 6 km south of Montbron, the nearest town with a supermarket, bakery, butcher, pharmacy, doctor and nice restaurants.

Zeer mooie en zeer complete vakantiewoning, prachtige super rustige omgeving.
Grietje Grootenhuis from Apeldoorn,
Charmant, schoon en verzorgd huisje. De omheinde tuin is ideaal voor de honden om lekker rond te lopen en voor ons om lekker van de zon (en schaduw) te genieten. Heerlijk rustig, mooie omgeving. Vriendelijke en hartelijke huiseigenaren. Beslist een aanrader!
Restaurants, food & wine
This region of France is known for its delicious beef from Limousin cows, tasty local goat cheeses, cognac, honey, duck (foie gras) and walnuts.
The local apéritif drink 'Pineau' is made of cognac and grape marc. All these delicacies can be found at local markets such as Piegut (10 minutes away), one of the oldest and largest markets since 1642!
There is no shortage of nice restaurants in the area, where one can have lunch (three course menu) for a small price. During the summer months, several towns in the area organise a weekly night market, where you can buy and eat local products while enjoying live music.
Activities
Our two-hundred-year-old farmhouse welcomes guests who are primarily looking for peace and nature (Natura 2000 site). The farm is situated on the border between the Charente and the Dordogne. You can make beautiful walks in the hilly landscape. A real paradise for nature lovers. Most walks leave from the property itself. Hiking and street maps are available.
Sports enthusiasts can go mountain biking, kayaking, swimming in the river or in one of the local lakes (St Estèphe with beach). Or why not just relax with a good book and a drink on the sun terrace ... or enjoy a beautiful starry sky in the evening.
For golf lovers, there is the renowned golf course Golf de La Prèze (10 km). For the children, our four Shetland ponies are ready for a cuddle and/or care.
There are also many historical sites and picturesque towns. We are 15 minutes drive from Nontron (famous knife festival, where thousands of visitors from all over the world come to see the famous tradition of knife making), 30 minutes drive from the medieval town of Brantôme, little Venice of the South, classified as one of 'les plus beaux détours de France' with its beautiful architecture, gourmet restaurants and Benedictine abbey. One of our favourites! A 15-minute drive away is the picturesque town of La Rochefaucould with its beautiful medieval castle. When visiting the castle, the children can dress up as knights or princesses.
