Reviews
Jacob Douwenga from Enschede,
Restaurants, food & wine
There are several good restaurants in the area, with even a Michelin star restaurant in Montbron
Activities
The lake (a 1-minute walk from the house) is a great place to swim. There is a raft with a slide, where children can have fun for hours. The water is strictly controlled by the French government. There are also 2 tennis courts, a mini-golf course, jeu de boules courts, a playground and a football pitch, table tennis tables. And of course a lovely swimming pool and a shallow pool for toddlers. Both the swimming pools and the beach by the lake are equipped with comfortable loungers. There are also toilets and a shower. The swimming pool is open from 1 May to 1 October. In the lake you can fish for carp, roach, bream, pike (perch). The surrounding woods are great for walking; in the house are hiking trails.
Village le Chat is located in the Charente on the border of the Dordogne. It is right next to a beautiful golf course La Preze. The golf has an 18-hole championship course and also has a unique 18-hole pitch-and-putt competition course, a driving range and two pitch-and-putt practice greens. It also has a nice terrace and fine restaurant, open for dinner from Friday to Sunday.
The Charente region, with Angoulême as its capital, extends into the Aquitaine basin. It is bordered to the north by Deux-Sèvres and Vienne, to the east by Haute-Vienne and Dordogne, to the south by Dordogne and to the west by Charente-Maritime. The river Charente, from which the department takes its name, flows from the upper north due south to Angoulême, before turning west. The northern half of the department is mainly cattle country. The chalky southern part is more barren (moors) and is devoted to sheep farming. In the west, cognac has been distilled since the 17th century. Most of the vineyards supplying grapes for making that famous brandy lie within the department's borders. In terms of art history, the Charente is well provided for: no fewer than 400 Romanesque churches (12th-13th centuries), a string of museums and a number of worthwhile, historic castles.
