The house
The romantic holiday home Le Colonel in the Orne department (Normandy), is a very tastefully furnished half-timbered house from around 1700 with a bell tower that was completely restored in 2011. The kitchen unit is tastefully decorated and features a 4-burner gas cooker. Here you will also find a toaster, combi microwave, Senseo, mixer, various kitchen utensils, pans, dishes and crockery. The dining area overlooks the beautiful valley at the back. From the sitting area, you can overlook the garden at the front. A barbecue is provided. There is a smart TV as well as fibre-optic internet.
Through a low oak 17th-century door, 4 lazy steps lead to the bedroom. Bed size: 180 x 200 cm. There are also 2 wardrobes.

Our half-timbered house Le Colonel, suitable for 2 persons, is situated in a valley with four other authentic half-timbered houses on spacious plots. The other houses are also résidences secondaires. You have an unobstructed view over the valley both in front of and behind the house. The grounds, full of flowers and fruit trees, measure approx. 2,500 m2 and are located on a dead-end road. An average of 3 cars a day pass by on the access road. On the same property, about 30 metres apart and separated by trees and bushes, is the guest cottage Le Paradis, suitable for 4 people. The area is green, hilly and very quiet.
The novellist Pierre-Alain Gasse has written novellas about our house, its inhabitants and the valley.
The half-timbered house is located in the Pays d'Auge. It lies in the departments of Calvados, Orne and a small part in Eure. The region is bordered by the rivers Touques in the east, Dives in the west, the coast (Côte Fleurie) in the north and the hills of Argentan in the south. Some well-known towns in the area include Lisieux, Honfleur, Trouville-sur-Mer and Deauville. The Pays d'Auge is considered a typical Normandy region, with well-known Normandy regional products such as camembert, cider and calvados. The region also produces AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) cheeses: Livarot and Pont-l'Évêque.
Lower Normandy is sparsely populated. Only 85 inhabitants per km2 compared to 491 inhabitants per km2 in the Netherlands.
The weather in Normandy is similar to that in the Netherlands and Belgium, with slightly higher temperatures and less frequent rainfall. Winters are usually mild and pleasant.
The sun can shine quite enthusiastically in Normandy, especially in the summer months. On the hottest days of the year, the mercury will exceed 30 degrees Celsius. Fortunately, in most places in Normandy, the wind chill is somewhat tempered by the sea breeze. You have the greatest chance of sunny weather in Normandy in the months of June and July. On average, these months have eight hours of sunshine per day. In May and August, this average is one hour lower.
The Netherlands and Belgium have an average of 1500 sunshine hours; Normandy 1750 sunshine hours.

Reviews
Lilian from Lelystad,
Eric en Eva from VROENHOVEN,
Anke en Michel from Echteld,
Restaurants, food & wine
Normandy is of course the land of Camembert (the village is 3 km away) and other delicious cheeses such as Livarot and Pont l'Evêque.
Apples are made into the most delicious apple pies and for the production of cider with light bubbles (very nice with lunch, especially the pear cider) pommeau (a Normandy speciality: calvados mixed with apple juice) and calvados, the serious stuff. Nearby, you can visit the Graindorge cheese factory. Some restaurants within driving distance are o.i. worth a mention in the Guide Michelin. Be pampered or cook for yourself and enjoy in the garden with birdsong in the background as the sun sets.
Nature, peace, culture and good food are the ironclad ingredients of this beautiful part of France.
Activities
Les Champeaux in the Orne, is an hour's drive from Suisse Normande, the more rugged part of Normandy and the beautiful wooded region of Le Perche. But also an hour's drive from the beach in Deauville/Trouville with its many seafood restaurants, Cabourg and the cosy port town of Honfleur. So as is often said : Entre terre et mer. Antique markets or flea markets are organised every weekend in season. Several gardens are open in Normandy.
In memory of the Second World War, you can visit the Mémorial de Montormel, where you can find out all the details about this period.
Normandy has a lot to offer in many areas: Rouen cathedral, the famous Bayeux tapestry, the beaches where the Allies landed during D-day, 6 June 1944.
Check out Haras du Pin, France's most famous horse-breeding farm.
A brisk walk or nice car trips on the country roads are among the possibilities. Several mountain bike routes have been mapped out over narrow, steep forest paths.
There is a 33 km cider route by car, which almost passes our house. Both beautiful when the apple trees are in bloom and during the harvest in September/October.
Great golf on a new 9-hole course, with old trees, in the neighbourhood where there is still peace and quiet and you are not rushed by fellow players. Where else can you find that?
In Saint Pierre sur Dives, you can hire a canoe or kayak to paddle on the river Dives.
But also do nothing for a few days : enjoy the silence, the surroundings with almost no dissonance, the beautiful starry sky and the beautiful nature where wild orchids are at ease and bloom abundantly.
In autumn and during winter even deer are spotted in our backyard!
Landscape psychologists agree that nowhere does a person recover faster from his busy existence, than in nature!
