River Cottage, overlooking the River Douve and alongside a teaming wildlife pond, combines the rustic charm of an ancient farm building with all the comforts of modern-day living. Totally refurbished the Cottage is designed for at least six people in its three beautifully decorated and furnished bedrooms.
The Cottage's large country-style lounge - affording wonderful views over the peaceful countryside - is a room specially designed for relaxation and harmony. Between the cool ceramic tiled floor and the elegant pine ceiling lie comfortable sofas, occasional tables, a flat screen television with UK channels & dvd player, a music centre, iPod & iPad docking station and toy box full toys, books & jigsaws keep them entertained and a host of games for those family nights at home. As with everything at La Mare Chappey, it has been designed to be “child friendly” and safe, with a secure patio area - so no little escapes! The traditional stable door is ideal for letting in a cooling breeze, but again the little ones are secure with the bottom being closed.
Newly re-fitted contemporary kitchen for 2014 being spacious and well-equipped kitchen and polished solid pine floors adjacent dining area is home-from-home - with dishwasher, cooker, microwave, large fridge/freezer, coffee-maker and all the pots, pans, crockery and utensils required for those long and leisurely evening meals with friends and family.
The Master Bedroom, with its large and inviting King-sized bed - is generously sized with oak beams complementing the soft cream and pale green colour scheme, overlooks the wildlife pond,
Whilst the chic peach room, with its stylish decoration, is furnished with two comfortable single beds. Both are equipped with more than adequate storage, drawer and hanging space. Black-out blinds so they sleep that little bit longer!
Meanwhile, La Mer Bedroom has been designed as an adventure for the little ones... In bright seaside colours, the room has modern bunk beds and a fun wardrobe and cupboard system which will encourage even the untidiest of youngsters to clear up after themselves! New for 2014 contemporary family bathroom incorporates an ultra-modern small bath for the little ones with power shower over and matching stylish sanitary ware
Apart from having the freedom to roam and explore the five acres of private land which makes up the La Mare Chappey estate, guests staying at River Cottage have their own secluded patio area - equipped with tables and chairs for 6, barbecue and outside lighting.
Wonderful during the day when all that can be heard is the trickling of the water in the nearby river and its accompanying wildlife, and totally relaxing during those balmy evenings for an alfresco meal or bottle of wine with friends and family... Better still, great for mum and dad to unwind while the youngsters safely have fun in La Mare Chappey's activity fields.

Local Facilities
Although tucked away from the disturbances of modern-day life, La Mare Chappey is within easy walking distance of the tiny Normandy village of Nehou with its welcoming bar and shop (known for its fresh baguettes and croissants!) Also an Exhibition is fully dedicated to one of the most famous generals of the Second World War: General George S. Patton. Who was based here in Nehou.
A special cycling and walking route lies just 400 metres away from the Manoir where there was once an old railway line through Normandy and within a few minutes' drive is the beautifully preserved cobbled medieval town of Bricquebec, Normandy.
The town boasts a good selection of shops, supermarkets, bars, restaurants, an historic chateau and bustling Monday-morning market, famous throughout the Normandy region for its diverse range of tantalising fresh produce.
A few minutes in the other direction is Normandy's St-Sauveur-le-Vicomte, which again offers a good range a shops, bars and restaurants, together with its own canoeing centre - perfect for those who like splashing about in water on their holiday! Forest Adventure centre enthralling tree climb experience for all ages. Those who enjoy rambling through a forest, the Foret de St Sauveur le Vicomte is just on the edge of the town. It has dedicated pathways of differing lengths which are colour coded and signposted and range from 45 minutes to 2 hours. Just in case odd rainy day there’s also indoor swimming pool to let the little ones run off some steam.
Some of the most glorious and deserted Blue-Flag beaches on Normandy's Cherbourg Peninsula - including Barneville Plage, Carteret, Surtainville, and Portbail - are within a fifteen minute drive from La Mare Chappey here in Normandy; Many of these offer a wide variety of water-sports activities, bustling marinas, plus the opportunity of a day-trip by ferry to the nearby island of Jersey.
GOLF:
There is a links golf course at St. Jean de la Riviere(18 mins). There are two nine hole courses at La Glacerie, Cherbourg (25 mins) and there are 18 hole golf courses at Coutainville (40 mins) and Granville (1 hour).
