The house
We have owned this holiday house for several years and still love its tranquil rural setting. Set amongst its own fields at the end of a ½ mile private drive, it is the most lovely relaxing holiday retreat. Built some 300 years ago, this holiday cottage has enormous character with old beams, massive stone walls and a huge Normandy fireplace. The South facing terrace catches the sun all day and is the ideal spot to enjoy an evening drink listening to the cicadas.
The magnificent 10m x 5m private heated swimming pool is situated in a peaceful setting and provides the perfect place to relax in the sun. There are lovely views over the wooded valley below. And if you fancy a change of scenery, it is a pretty ten minute walk from our holiday villa to the village of Grimesnil.
Spread over three floors, our French gite is full of period character and well-equipped for holidays with up to 12 people: we have 2 double bedrooms, including a master en suite, and 4 twin rooms that are perfect for children or groups of friends. With a huge lawn, our own pear trees and meadows all around, our holiday home is the perfect place to enjoy nature in Normandy.

La Germainiere is perfectly situated for a great holiday in totally unspoilt Normandy countryside: lush fields with spotty cows, pretty villages with great restaurants, and only 15 minutes to pristine sandy beaches. The farmhouse is set in a quiet area surrounded by fields and farmland, but there are plenty of nearby villages and towns catering for all your usual holiday needs.
La Germainiere is just 6km from the village of Hambye. Hambye is a typically French village, with 2 bakeries, a butchers, post office, supermarket, hardware store and bar/restaurant. Tuesday is market day. Gavray is also nearby (7km) and is a lovely little market town with banks, shops, bars and restaurants. Saturday is pannier market day and Wednesday hosts the calf market, which is great fun for all the family. Villedieu les Poeles (15km) Coutances has a beautiful cathedral, lots of shops, restaurants and cafes, plus market day on Thursdays.
Within easy reach of the house are the world famous Mont St Michel and the medieval town of Bayeux, with its ancient tapestry depicting the battle of Hastings. To the northeast are the historic World War II D-Day beaches of the Normandy landings: Gold, Omaha, Sword and Utah, not to mention the fascinating war museums at Arromanche, Caen etc.

Prices shown for all bookings starting from 28 April 2023 and ending on 27 October 2023 include the private use of the 10m x 5m heated swimming pool.
Prices are per week, and include all heating, hot water, electricity and logs, plus use of washing machine, tumble dryer, wifi and free phone calls to landlines in Europe.
Bed linen and towels are available for hire at a cost of £20 per person. All duvets and pillows are provided but if you have ordered linen then this will comprise – duvet and pillow cases, sheets, two towels per person and tea towels and bath mats. The housekeeper will leave the bedlinen and towels neatly piled on the beds so that you can choose which beds you wish to make up.
Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement at £30 per dog per week.
