The house
The Priory dates from the 17th century but has been renovated to include all modern facilities. It retains it's "olde worlde" charm and many of the original features. There are six large bedrooms, spread over the first and second floor, three are doubles and three are twin rooms. There are extra pull-out beds in a couple of the rooms suitable for children if needed. On the ground floor there are two kitchens - both have a dishwasher, microwave, gas hob, electric oven, fridge/freezer etc. - and two lounges both equipped with TV (English, French and German). There is internet throughout the house. On the first floor there is a library which can be used as a quiet room or as a playroom for children in bad weather. There is a mezzanine level with a bureau for anyone who may need to work whilst on holiday. There is gas central heating throughout the house and fireplaces in both lounges. Logs can be supplied on request.
The gardens are secure and the entrance to the property is gated. There is a covered seating area in front of the house and several other quiet areas around the garden as well as a large area to the rear of the house for playing ball games.
A large barbecue is also provided.
If you want to bring bicycles or other sports equipment there is a large barn attached to the house where these can be stored. There is parking for 3/4 cars.

Reviews
Chris from Oxford,
Lovely property: warm, comfortable (we were there in winter) and well equipped. Good facilities within walking distance in the village.
Pleun de Heer from Zwijndrecht,

Thank you for the lovely review. I am only sorry that I was unable to be there in person to meet you. Hope to meet you one day in the future!
Karen.
Geraldine from Stafford,
We had a fabulous time at this wonderful Gite, situated within walking distance of the village of Gavray. The pictures of the Gite under stated its character and charm. It was well equipped, clean, comfortable with an extensive outdoor space and plenty of parking. The area around Gavray was wonderful to explore, not far from the beaches, ideal for cycling and walking. Our host was very welcoming, helpful and accommodating. Would thoroughly recommend and come again.
Restaurants, food & wine
Gavray market day is Saturday and is very popular and busy. There are cafes, bars and restaurants in Gavray all of which are open for business on Saturdays. There is a small supermarket on the edge of the town which is open Monday to Saturday. There is also a smaller market on Wednesday mornings.
There are several restaurants and bar/cafes in Gavray serving good food at reasonable prices.
There is one butcher's shop in Gavray which is very popular - on Saturday morning be prepared to queue!
With three patisseries which stagger their days off, you will always be able to buy fresh bread and delicious cakes. They also sell baguette sandwiches in the mornings.
Activities
There is a beautiful, safe, sandy beach approximately 20 minutes away (St-Martin de Brehal) and there is a watersports centre there where sailing and other activities can be booked. Approximately 15 minutes away (Brehal) there is a horse-riding school. There are private lakes in the area for fishing and there is a golf course in St-Martin de Brehal as well.
Le Prieure is approximately 40 minutes away from Le Mont Saint Michel. the old town of St Malo is about 20 minutes further on from the Mont Saint Michel. To the north, the Normandie D-day landing beaches can all be reached within an hour, and the Bayeux Tapestry and the lovely old town of Bayeux within 40 minutes.
Nearer to home there is a crazy-golf course at La Baleine (10 minutes) which also has a small cafe for refreshments and botanical gardens. The cathedral and the public gardens in Coutances (20 minutes) are well worth a visit. Granville to the west (approx 30 minutes away) boast a many restaurants around the harbour, The old walled town high above, and a short walk along the coast (and a steep climb up the cliff steps) takes you to the house and gardens where Christian Dior grew up. The gardens are open (free) all year and in the summer months there is a different exhibition each year in the house, relating to the designs and gowns of Christian Dior (entry fee payable).
