The house
The house dates back to the 17th century and can accommodate 1 - 6 people. It is part of a harmonious and picturesque larger ensemble of 2 main buildings and 4 outbuildings on a fully enclosed plot of 3000m2 with interconnected courtyards and back gardens and a private forest of 20ha. The family stays a few times a year in the more recent, 18th century, part. But only when there are no guests in the gîte. With its 90 m², divided over two floors, the accommodation is spacious, light and comfortable. A real holiday home. It contains
- ground floor:
*large living room with fireplace, sitting area and dining room; modern and fully equipped kitchen;
*laundry bathroom with shower, separate toilet and washbasin; and
*an extra room (with sofa convertible into double bed) with access to garden.
- first floor:
*main bedroom with double bed (140 x 200 cm);
*bedroom with (2) bunk beds (90 x 200 cm);
*bathroom with direct, separate access from both bedrooms, with king-size shower, double washbasin and toilet.
The holiday house, together with its own 2 outbuildings (garage with ping pong table and two new bicycles, wood storage, garden furniture, BBQ ...), forms by its typical architecture and design an exclusive own world with special warm colours typical of this part of Normandy.
In addition to various types of games such as Monopoly, Scrabble, card games, Poker, there is a "video library" with more than 120 DVDs, and a large library (children's books, novels, reference books).
N.B. for holidaymakers with pets: the courtyard and back gardens of almost 5000m2 altogether are fully enclosed; almost entirely walled in with, for the view, a small section of fence and gate giving access to meadow and forest.

Surroundings
The house, which is now a holiday home, was attached to a larger building at the beginning of the 19th century and made available to the municipality in 1808 as the presbytery, together with a coach house and stables, by the then Count of Beaurepaire. This presbytery was returned to the family in the 20th century and is occasionally used for holidays.
These buildings, the old presbytery and the holiday house, together with 4 outbuildings, double courtyard and back gardens, form an enclosed area. It feels like a private and autonomous hamlet in the middle of the village, but with a direct walking connection to the accompanying 40ha forest. The adjacent town hall was also donated to the municipality at the time. The donor, a descendant of the Count of Beaurepaire in 1808, was himself mayor of Louvagny for more than 60 years and the town hall was thus only a few steps away from his residence.
Le Prieuré is thus situated in the heart of the village of Louvagny, next to the town hall. The village is known for its 17th century chateau - some parts are even much older - and is closely linked to the Counts of Beaurepaire of Louvagny and their descendants, who served France with distinction under all kings, from the 14th century Phillip V to Louis XVIII, under the Emperors Napoleon I and Napoleon III and in the Republic.
In fact, the ancient seigniory of Louvagny, the castle, the meadows, fields and woods around the castle have belonged to the same family since feudal times. It has never been sold; only the names of the owners have sometimes changed through inheritance and marriage.
The castle itself, five steps away from the Prieuré, is located on over 100 ha of land, completely enclosed by stone walls, with remains of the old drawbridge (separate historical monument; a large part of the moats were filled in 1830 - 1840). Worth mentioning is also the noble chapel of the village church, directly connected to the castle. This chapel is also classified as a historical monument. It tells the history of the Lords of this land and of the castle with dozens of frescoes of coats of arms of family alliances, on the walls and on the wooden ceiling. The chapel and the small church with its baroque altar and other remarkable church furniture, statues and paintings can be visited on request.

Reviews
tessa aalderink from Doesburg,
René en Marie-Jeanette from Veghel,
Nienke Steensma from Dordrecht,
Wij komen zeker terug!
Restaurants, food & wine
The region is famous for its liquor, Calvados, its cheese, Camembert, and its lightly alcoholic apple juice, cidre. In the nearby towns of Saint Pierre sur Dives and Falaise, there is a wide choice of cosy restaurants, and in the wider area up to three-star restaurants.
Activities
Ping-Pong, (in annex), cycling (available), hiking, especially in the accompanying 40ha forest, swimming - sea beach three quarters of an hour away. Picturesque villages in a beautiful landscape. Good food in nice restaurants. Many golf courses - Normandy has 47, and in the not too distant surroundings there are about five, especially in Caen, Louvigny, Carcelles.
Many historical sights:
Louvagny is less than 3km from Courcy with bar/grocery shop for fresh bread daily and other useful things, including a fast pump for electric cars; XIIth- XIIIth century castle remains and a 12th /13th century church
8 km from Saint Pierre-sur-Dives, famous for its 11th century market halls, part of the town's medieval Norman heritage. It welcomes every Monday morning a large country market: fresh bread, cheese, fish, meat, livestock, fruit and vegetables, but also kitchen utensils, furniture, etc ... It also houses a number of antique shops concentrated around an inner courtyard, and - every first Sunday of the month - a large antique market / Brocante with about 40 professional dealers.
Falaise is 15 km away. The town was the birthplace of William the Conqueror, the first of the Norman kings of England. The Château de Falaise (12th-13th century), which dominates the town from a high steep rock (French: falaise), used to be the seat of the Dukes of Normandy. In modern times, Falaise is known for the battle of the "Falaise Pocket" during the Allied Reconquest of France (called Operation Overlord) in August 1944. Two German armies were surrounded and destroyed by the Allies. About 10,000 German troops were killed and 50,000 taken prisoner. Every Saturday morning there is a lively large traditional market in the city centre.
Louvagny is located at :
- 7.4 km from Vendeuvre: Castle, a pearl of Normandy. In its museum, the world's first collection of miniature furniture. In the castle, daily life in the 18th century; very beautiful antique furniture. In the magnificent garden surprising water games, labyrinth ..;
- 45 km from Caen: Caen Memorial (museum dedicated to WWII and the Battle of Normandy / D-day), medieval abbeys, Caen Castle ..;
- 50 km from Deauville: beaches, Grand Casino, palace-like hotels, golf courses, horse races and the annual festival of American cinema;
- 60 km from the Allied invasion beaches: Juno Beach (Canadian landings), and a little further, the (US) beach of Omaha;
- 65 km from Honfleur: old port surrounded by authentic 16th - 18th century houses.
- 72 km from Bayeux: old medieval town, Bayeux tapestry.
- 150 km from Mont Saint Michel.
- Bicycle
- Near hiking trails
Further remarks
About the house itself, with its two connected courtyards, backyards and the forty hectares of private forest to which you have free and exclusive access (with the exception of a few Saturdays during the hunting season), the following is true.
Dating back to the 16th - 17th century, it has two floors and an (as yet) inaccessible attic, and was carefully restored in 2017 with all modern comforts. It is located in the heart of the picturesque village of Louvagny (63 inhabitants, Calvados, Normandy), but completely independent and private, surrounded by a large courtyard at the front and a stone-enclosed private backyard of 1500 m² with a panoramic view of meadows, cows and calves, fields and woods...
