The house
The holiday home is located on the outskirts of the village of Aubenton and has been renovated in detail. It has a living room with loft, open kitchen, two bedrooms, a bathroom with shower and toilet and a garden.
The bedroom downstairs has a double bed. Upstairs is a sleeping area with three single beds (this area can get quite warm in summer).
There is no television or internet, but there are books and games. When it is cold you can also enjoy the wood stove. In short, all the ingredients for a wonderfully peaceful holiday.
The gite is situated on a road that leads into the fields after 30 metres. But if you walk towards the village, it will take you five minutes to get to the boulangerie for a fresh croissant or crispy baquette.
Dogs are, in consultation, welcome.

Een heerlijk charmant huis. comfortabel en enorm sfeervol ingericht met een heel fijne haardkachel. Een ongecompliceerde tijd hebben we gehad met een optimale inrichting en zonder onnodige extra's. Een oprechte uitnodiging om tot rust te komen en even niets te moeten, gelegen in een mooi wandelgebied en met een bakker en winkeltje op loopafstand. Het beschikbare koffiezetapparaat warmde de koffie niet helemaal naar wens op. (En ik miste een lekkere grote mok voor mijn kop thee, ik ben geen fan van kleine kopjes). Maar verder was alles prima naar wens, en zo fijn dat de hondjes mee konden. We komen er graag terug!

Zoals de naam het zegt, het is een mooi huisje. Alles is ook schoon en netjes.
Activities
Aubenton is just in the Aisne department on the border with the Ardennes. The region is called the Thiérache. It is an agricultural area with small farmers, endless narrow roads and many cows that are all still outside and not always on the right side of the fence. You see rolling fields of grain, maize and rapeseed of which the latter provides spectacular yellow views in May. There are forests and many small villages, where chickens scratch around in the courtyards.
Nature lovers will be delighted by the enormous number of birds, plants, animals and critters.
It is extraordinary that you can find something so close by that no longer exists in the Netherlands: real silence, pitch-black darkness and beautiful starry skies.
You can walk or cycle here endlessly, although for the latter you need well-trained leg muscles. There are signposted walking routes, one of which passes by the gite.
The region is known for its fortified churches, of which there are dozens in the area.
