The house
Visit the still virtually unknown but scenically beautiful region of la Meuse, in north-eastern France.
Still above Verdun is the small sloping village of Brandeville, where the weather is milder and the sun shines more often than in the wider region.
The holiday home has a stable internet connection (fibre optic), so the house also lends itself well to working from home.
Maison de Brandeville in an attractive and well-equipped house, including a full bookcase and a music collection.
The house is decorated with lots of warm colours and exudes tranquillity. The garden is large, has many flowering plants and also fruit trees.
A stay represents nature, cooking, reading and enjoying the large backyard.
The flowery village of Brandeville ( about 150 inhabitants) is picturesque and situated in a valley.
Six days a week the mobile baker comes through the village, honking in the morning at the bottom of the embankment in front of the house.
House layout:
The house has some natural stone walls, as well as authentic French wallpaper in several rooms. There is a handmade oak (open) kitchen, equipped with all conveniences (such as combination oven, a large fridge-freezer). There is a large bathroom with shower and an enamel bathtub (on legs). In the sitting room of Maison de Brandeville is the wood-burning stove, large dining table and by the wood-burning stove are a chaise longue and an armchair.
Holiday home Maison de Brandeville has 2 large bedrooms, each with a double bed and overlooking the village and fields,.
Audio-visual:
There is a TV with DVD recorder in the bedroom. There are many films available in the house, but there is no TV reception.
There is a good music system in the living room.
Garden and garden furniture:
Holiday home Maison de Brandeville has a deep garden, with several terraces and a nice view of the surroundings. It is lovely and undisturbed. There are fruit trees and in spring and summer flowering plants (we always ask the tenants to water them with the gardena hose cart).
There is ample garden furniture in the holiday home, including a large picnic table, relaxation and sun beds, parasols, as well as a Weber BBQ.
Unfortunately, we do not allow dogs in Maison de Brandeville.
Firewood is generally required before 1 June and after mid-September. The surcharge for wood is 10.00 euros per day

Brandeville is a friendly village with its own spring and spring water that you can tap at the village waterhole. Reviews
Ritchie Donk from Rozenburg (Zh),
Peter Post from Maassluis,
Rene Ouwens from Rijswijk,

Restaurants, food & wine
Near holiday home Maison de Brandeville are a number of nice restaurants. A plat du jour is good and inexpensive in many places in the region. The region La Meuse has the first vineyards in recent years: the Cote de la Meuse (near Lac Madine). In the village of Cobres-sous-les-Cotes there are several wineries, including "Muzy" But you can also taste wine in Marville. near Brandeville.
The classic cities of Metz and Nancy (both within 100 km) are well worth a visit; here you will find a combination of culinary and culture.
The Champagne region and Reims are also within easy reach from the gite. The epicentre of the Champagne region is a 1.5-hour drive away. Highly recommended. Addresses of a few small-scale champagne houses are available in the gite.
Verdun is the largest city near Brandeville (30 km) with an organic Friday market in des Halles, but also has market on the quayside of the Meuse, with its many nice terraces and clothes shops.
For your daily shopping, Intermarche and Lidl you can go to Stenay or Dun sur Meuse (both 12 km away).
Activities
From holiday home Maison de Brandeville you can:
- fully enjoy nature, hiking and cycling. As a tenant of Maison de Brandeville, you can use the bikes, which are in the stables behind the house. It is
hilly in the region, but there are also flatter parts where cycling is reasonably easy
- visit brocantes and artisan markets. There are plenty of them in the immediate surroundings
- fantastic swimming in the (here still narrow) river Meuse (at 10 km), but also swimming and sunbathing in a number of lakes nearby
- visit important WW I memorial sites (la Grande Guerre) in the vicinity
- for the children there is a mini playground in the village and a large wooden climbing course in the woods nearby
- paragliding, from the high hill behind the house (and visible from the garden)
- tennis (12 km away)
- horse riding, with and without accompaniment (15 km)
- Bicycle
- Near hiking trails
- Near riding
- Near theme park
- Fishing
- Flying and gliding
Further remarks
The first flea markets are there from the beginning of May. Artisanal markets can be found in the region during the summer period.
In spring, the whole area is brightened up by the flowering of the rapeseed fields.
In July/August, sunflower fields bloom all around the village.
Visiting the La Meuse region is highly recommended for those interested in the history of WWI. Several books on La Grande Guerre are available in the house.
