The house
In the oldest house in the village, apart from my own residence, I have also realised a holiday home in 2019. Your house has its own entrance and consists of a hall, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and living room. In addition, you have a covered terrace of about 15m2, which overlooks the large garden and which you may of course use. Next to my house is a sizeable car park. You have an excellent wifi connection.
I have named your flat Chatrou. That's what the residents call their village because the name is so ridiculously long for such a small village. Your house is a great base for a walk, bike ride, champagne tasting, beach day at Lac du Der and so on. You will be amazed at the vast vistas through which nice country roads run.
Saturday is a tricky arrival day for me. Sometimes it is possible, sometimes it is not. So ask if you prefer to arrive on a particular Saturday. Saturday departures are never a problem.

Chatelraould Saint Louvent lies on the edge of the Champagne limestone plateau. Next to it lies "the Der". This region lies a little lower and in the middle lies the Lac du Der. This is an enormous reservoir, thus artificially constructed. It is meant as water storage to regulate the water level in the river Marne. Every year, in the period from February to April, the Marne overflows in an area where it can do no harm. But the Marne flows into the Seine, which runs through Paris. And there the flooding is undesirable, which is why the lake was built. The water level in the lake varies with the seasons. From October to December it is dry and then it gradually fills up again with water from the Marne. Because of this drying up of the lake, we have a beautiful phenomenon here every autumn: The bird migration and the wintering of the cranes. The peak of the crane migration is in mid-November. Then there are between 100 and 200,000 cranes in and around the lake. Wonderful to see!

Leo is enthousiast, heel gastvrij en weet veel over de omgeving te vertellen. Het Lac du Der is mooi en ligt dichtbij. Wat ons betreft een aanrader.Hans from Hoofddorp,
Prima woning die van alle gemakken voorzien is en goed schoongemaakt wordt.
Enige wat wij jammer vonden dat er in de buurt niet zo heel veel gelegenheid was om met de hond uit te gaan met de nadruk op aan het water, Lac du Der is mega groot maar er zijn maar weinig plekjes waar je hond het water in kan.Als je op zaterdag aankomt moet je wel opletten dat het huisvuil dinsdagochtend opgehaald wordt.
Wij waren op de terugreis de bench vergeten maar die heeft Leo netjes door kennissen mee naar Nederland laten nemen Chapeau Leo!Dirk Lagerwij from Heinkenszand,

Restaurants, food & wine
Most restaurants have a traditional French cuisine and are not expensive. In Vitry le François, there are a few good restaurants, where it is better to book in advance. Of course I am happy to do that for you.
I can tell you a lot about champagne and I am happy to give you addresses/trips where you can taste excellent champagnes, but where you will also enjoy the journey.
I am happy to help you on your way and I also like to open a few bottles and let you experience and explain the different tastes. Champagnes are of course cheaper here. A good champagne from a small house (I prefer to go/ send you to the wineboer who does everything himself) starts at € 14 and ends at € 25.
Activities
Your house is a good base to visit the huge lake, Lac du Der. Lots of forests and nature, but also beautiful beaches with good swimming water and many water sports possibilities. Special cities nearby are Troyes, Verdun. All shops can be found about 5 kilometres away in Vitry le François. A nice little town with a cosy centre. There is a good restaurant 100 metres from your house. You can also choose to go walking or cycling by the canals that were built in the 19th century along the river Marne and have a picnic there. And of course, you can go visit a champagne winery and taste and buy their champagnes there. Of course, I can explain in advance what to look out for then and I know plenty of addresses where you will feel well received. The village suffered badly at the beginning of the First World War, but also during the wars under Napoleon and the first Franco-German war in 1869/70. If you want to know more about the First World War, you will find numerous monuments nearby. The battlefields near Verdun are the most gruesome testimony to this, but there are plenty of other places unknown in history where you can get an idea of the inhuman drama that took place here.

Further remarks
The house has a double bed in the bedroom and a single bed in the living room. For shorter stays and by agreement, this also allows you to stay with 3 people. I then charge 7.50 per day per extra person.
