The house
Priory is a 17th century Breton home originally constructed in 1640 out of the local building material, slate.
It has been beautifully converted to make fabulous family self-catering holiday accommodation sleeping up to 6 people in its 3 bedrooms. There is Wifi available throughout Priory.
The accommodation is over 3 floors with the ground floor consisting of the living area, large kitchen and cloakroom. The lounge has seating for 7 people on wonderful leather chesterfield sofas facing a stunning fireplace and chimney that reaches full height to the roof. There is a dining space with table and chairs for 6.
The fully-equipped kitchen has a range cooker with 2 electric ovens and gas hob; microwave; dishwasher and washing machine with a separate tumble dryer available for use in one of our communal spaces.
The first floor consists of a master bedroom located on a mezzanine level looking down into the lounge and has a king-sized four-poster bed. The family bathroom with bath and over-bath shower is located on the first floor with an additional king sized bedroom with its own private shower room.
The top floor is a twin bedroom.
Outside, Priory has a large private terrace with wooden garden furniture for dining outside; wooden sun loungers; a parasol and BBQ. The terrace leads onto a large lawned garden.
Guests in the Priory have access to all of the communal facilities we have at Kergudon. These include a boot / laundry room where you can borrow wellington boots for wet forest walks or use the tumble dryer and additional washing machine; a selection of mountain bikes (VTT) to use free of charge; a fitness suite / gym; a pétanque / boule pitch and a large family games room with pool, babyfoot, darts, library and bar. The games room can be converted to a cinema for a private family film night.
Priory is a dog-friendly gîte.

Restaurants, food & wine
Despite being in rural France, we are very fortunate that we have a pub and boulangerie in our village. Our nearest market town, Sizun, is 7 kms away and has all the basic services (supermarket, bakeries, cafe / tabac, pharmacy, bank, doctors, restaurants etc).
We have an excellent restaurant on the bank of the Lac du Drennec 2 kms from us with fabulous views over the lake which gets amazing sunsets and has a fresh and interesting menu generally with a Thai or Asian style. This restaurant is only open between April and September but there are other fabulous places to eat year-round in many of the local villages and towns.
Some of our favourites are:
Auberge du Menez in a neighbouring village, Saint Rivoal (5 kms) which specialises in local produce and has a great wine selection;
La Faiencerie in Daoulas (20 mins) which has an excellent menu and wine selection in a beautifully restored old pottery factory;
Le Cafe du Pont and Les Jardins des Sauveurs in the lovely market town of Landerneau (20 mins)
Auberge St Thegonnec in the village of St Thegonnec (20 mins)
Being Brittany there are countless creperies specialising in savoury galettes and crepes. Opening hours vary.
Brittany is very proud of its food and agriculture, especially organic farming, and there are many fabulous markets near us throughout the week selling amazing local produce.
Activities
We are located in the small village of Saint Cadou in the centre of the natural park of Armorique and the Monts D'Arrée. As such it is a fabulous area for walking, hiking and mountain biking / VTT (we have mountain bikes that our guests can use free of charge).
We are 3 kms away from the beautiful Lac du Drennec, an artificial reservoir with 2 sandy beaches. Having fresh water and no large waves it is ideal for families with young children - and is always warmer than the sea! The lake has a watersports centre where you can canoe, sail and paddleboard and the lake itself has an excellent reputation for trout fishing.
We are almost equidistant from the north, west and south coasts of Finistère each with their own special character and charm. There are countless fabulous beaches (pebble, sand, small and large) within an hour of us, the closest being 35 minutes. Many are very shallow sloped so you can walk / swim out a long way and still be well within your depth.
Being central many of the interesting villages, towns and cities of Finistère, and Brittany, are easily accessible.
