Surroundings
The Auvergne is one of France's least known but also one of its most
It can be reached within a day from the Netherlands. Here you will find the picturesque medieval mountain village of Montaigut-le-Blanc. Here you are in the heart of the nature park 'Parc naturel des Volcans d'Auvergne'.
The village with its red tiled roofs and narrow winding streets is dominated by the tower of the 12th century château. From the village, one has a beautiful view over valleys, hills and sunflower fields. The area is characterised by an enormous variety of landscapes, a true paradise for hikers and mountain bikers.
A wealth of cultural attractions such as castles and Romanesque churches, charming villages, markets and varied landscapes characterise the area.
Nearby is the spectacular mountain area Massif du Sancy, formed by volcanoes millions of years ago, where in winter you can also ski extensively. A bakery, cheese shop and café are located downstairs in the village. A supermarket is 2 kilometres away.

Reviews
Lisette from Katwijk,
Effi & Sibrecht from ROESELARE,
Marc from Montaigut-le-Blanc,

Restaurants, food & wine
Nearby are many restaurants in different price ranges and tastes, where you can eat the real Auvergnat regional dishes such as truffade and aligot. Addresses are available in the house. The region is one of the oldest wine-producing regions of France and has been on the rise again in recent years. In many places, wine can be tasted at the farmers' premises, which is usually very pleasant. Especially the fresh and high quality rosé from Corent is popular. Furthermore, the Auvergne is known throughout France for its fantastic cheeses. Montaigut is located in the production area of the Saint-Nectaire cheese that was the favourite cheese of King Louis the Fourteenth. The Cantal and the Bleu d'Auvergne are also known throughout France. It is possible to take the 'Route de fromages d'Auvergne'. The jambon d'Auvergne is a ham similar to Jamon Serrano and Parma ham. There is always a village festival nearby where local produce is sold and a communal meal is eaten. Very French and very cosy.
Activities
The area is unprecedented in terms of opportunities for walking and cycling. Montaigut is special because in the village itself already 4 very different beautiful walks start. The river Allier is known for its canoeing and rafting possibilities and from the many mountain tops you can parachute and hang glide. The ski resort of Super-Besse is half an hour's drive away. In the vicinity are many beautiful lakes where you can swim. The village has a nice swimming pool and a tennis court. The region is particularly suitable for mountain biking.

Further remarks
The house is located 10 metres from the road on an unpaved uphill path. In the high season it can be a bit difficult to find a parking place near the house in the historical village with the narrow streets, the car can be parked at 3 minutes walking distance.
