Reviews
FORNERIS Bernard from Mornas (84550),

We spent a week at Claire and Richard's Gîte Le Mounet-Gorges de l'Allier in Tailhac.
The welcome from Claire and Richard was heart-warming, and the environment was nice and quiet.
The house had a beautiful terrace with a fantastic view. The house was also equipped with many amenities and very cozy.
Because the weather was bad during our week, Richard provided us with plenty of wood for the stove.
We took walks in the area and took a tour by car. The surroundings were really beautiful.
We also visited several cities, of which le Puy-en-Velay really made an impression. There are also plenty of museums and castles to visit.
All in all highly recommended!
Claire and Richard, thanks again!Gabrielle and Gerard

Activities
In the Allier gorges, a canyon carved out by the river of the same name, nature lovers will be delighted by the picturesque, verdant surroundings. The landscapes here are extremely varied, punctuated by beautiful villages and Romanesque buildings, such as Sainte-Marie-des-Chazes in Saint-Julien-des-Chazes, a 13th-century chapel in a romantic setting, built at the foot of basalt cliffs and listed as a Historic Monument, and Tailhac with its motte castrale and its church with Romanesque remains.
Lavoûte-Chilhac, Monistrol-d'Allier, Prades, Saint-Arcons-d'Allier and Chanteuges, with its perched priory and charming cloister, are among the prettiest villages to be discovered on the banks of the Allier, considered to be one of the last wild rivers in Europe. Beautiful, unspoilt countryside separates these villages, particularly between Monistrol-d'Allier and Chanteuges. There are plenty of opportunities for hiking and mountain biking.
Those who enjoy leisure activities will love swimming on the beaches of Monistrol-d'Allier, Prades and Lavoûte-Chilhac, and fishing enthusiasts will love the clear waters of the Allier, home to trout, grayling and salmon!
For thrill-seekers, white-water sports are king, from canyoning and canoeing to rafting, hydrospeed and tubing.
Another original way to discover this superb unspoilt region is on the Allier Gorges tourist train, from Langeac in the Haute-Loire to Langogne in the Lozère. Its spectacular route ventures into areas where cars cannot penetrate, offering magnificent views of the rushing river, sometimes right up against the wall. If you don't have much time, you can opt for the beautiful tour of the volcanic villages of the Allier gorges, which will take you from Langeac to Monistrol-d'Allier in less than an hour.
Incidentally, the gorges de l'Allier are also the home of the Beast of Gévaudan, which made headlines in the eighteenth century...
