The house

  • Quiet, rural area with some agricultural activity

In the heart of the Vercors Regional Natural Park, in a small hamlet at an altitude of 750 m, 3km from the village, this old stable has been completely renovated by us, with a lot of heart and work.
Located on the ground floor of our house, the cottage is completely independent and can accommodate up to 6 people in a rustic, cocooning and cozy setting.

The cottage is organized around 2 complementary spaces: a day part and a night part.

A large living room welcomes you upon your arrival. It consists of a lounge area, a dining area and a kitchen area. The pellet stove and its beautiful flame will give you warmth, calm and well-being in the heart of winter.

The sleeping area consists of:
- a “parental” bedroom, with a double bed (140). The main bathroom, and its walk-in shower, is adjoining the bedroom.
- a bunk cabin bed fitted with 2 double beds (140) for the comfort of kids and grown-ups alike. A bathroom (sink + WC) completes this space.

Our garden is non-adjoining, however it is 50 meters from the gîte, inside the hamlet, on the banks of the La Vernaison river: a green setting ideal for relaxing, surrounded by nature.

Here, at the Étable du Vercors, you will find a setting perfectly suited to disconnecting and slowing down. It is in this spirit that you will find a library (with a varied selection as well as books in English), magazines, guides, tourist information, games (for old ages), a radio, a Bluetooth speaker but no screen!

The accommodation is non-smoking. Thank you for smoking outside.

La Chapelle-en-Vercors is 7 minutes by car and 30 minutes on foot (there is a trail from the hamlet). It's a bit like the capital: a market on Thursdays (and Saturdays in summer), a butcher's shop, a small market, bakeries, bars, restaurants, swimming pool, and health services (doctors and pharmacy).
To the north through les Gorges de la Bourne, Villard de Lans is 35 minutes away: the Isère Vercors opens its arms to you, a huge playground and discovery area of all kinds, too.
To the south, at the bottom of the Col du Rousset, Diois (Die region) is 45 minutes away, where you can find lavender and already Mediterranean airs.

Restaurants, food & wine

There are 2 restaurants that we find relatively incredible, especially in terms of quality/price!
The 1st: Café Brochier in St Julien en Vercors.
The 2nd: “Le Bistrot de St Agnan” in St Agnan. It’s a 4-minute drive from the gîte.

There a few other restaurants in La Chapelle-en-Vercors as well. A pizza place. An excellent butcher.

Activities

You will find near the gîte everything you need to be happy:
- The 4 seasons and their activities: hiking (some depart right from the cottage), caving, canyoning, climbing, mountaineering, cycling, mountain biking, snowshoeing, skiing
- A unique territory - the Vercors Drôme - with immense and wild spaces where Nature and History mingle (Hauts-Plateaux du Vercors Nature Reserve, Resistance Memorial in Vassieux en Vercors).
- The Hauts-Plateaux du Vercors National Nature Reserve, accessible from the town of St-Agnan-en-Vercors (La Coche car park), constitutes the natural heart of the Vercors Park: no permanent housing or road crosses it. It is the largest terrestrial nature reserve in mainland France!
- Underground passages and caves (La Luire, Choranche, etc.)
- Local artisans and produces (cheese, trout, ravioli, beer, etc.).
- Mythical roads carved into the side of cliffs such as Combe Laval.
- The sky and the stars! Le Vercors is the 5th in France and the 22nd reserve in the world labeled International Dark Sky Reserve (RICE) by DarkSky International in July 2023.
