Nyons is a Provençal town in the far south of the department of Drôme in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This historic town is also full of architectural gems and iconic structures such as St Jacobs gate, the old Roman bridge over the river Eygues and the Randonne tower from the 23rd century.
Hidden and protected between hills and valleys, the departments of Drôme and Vaucluse enjoy a microclimate due to mildness, sunshine and little wind with lots of sunshine (2798 hours a year) which also gives Nyons the nickname "Petit Nice".

Away from busy mass tourism, the Vaucluse offers the ideal setting for epicureans, sports enthusiasts & 'eco-tourists'. With its more than 2000 years of history, Vaison la Romaine is at the heart of a cultural & archaeological heritage, around which a crown of 13 medieval villages, amid olive & pine trees & vineyards of course. Waving through the 'vignes' along the 'Route de Vin', you pass the less and more famous wine villages with their AOC 'Côte du Rhône Village': Vacqueyras, Gigondas, Rasteau, Roaix, Sablet, Séguret, Visan, Vinsobres, ... The great & small wine producers are happy to welcome you for a no-obligation tasting.
Activities
Nyons is known and reputed for its typical black olives (La Tanche) with A.O.C. recognition, as well as for the processing of lavender via distillation. Many ateliers and distilleries can be visited.
In addition to typical Provençal shopping streets and all modern city amenities, a spacious Provençal market takes place on Thursdays amid the old city walls and picturesque squares.
There is an extensive network of hiking & cycling routes and mountain bike trails, and on the outskirts of the town the youngsters can have fun in the water park (parc aquatique) Nyonsoléade, located next to the tennis courts.
For full-day excursions, less than an hour away you can visit the cultural-historical cities of Orange & Avignon or the Enclave des Papes.
At 17km from Nyons you will find Vaison la Romaine with both a medieval and Roman part of town where the largest Provencal market is organised on Tuesdays.

Our charming gîte with landscaped garden and shaded seating also offers a private heated swimming pool (min25°C).
From 1 June to the end of September the heating of the pool is included in the rental price, before 1 June and in October there is a supplement of €50/week.
From 1 November to early April, the gîte is not rented.
