The house
The gîte sleeps 5 people and is part of a large former farmhouse dating from 1840 called Les Granges. The farm and its barns now form a small hamlet with three households, one of which is the gîte.
There are two bedrooms, a kitchen with large fridge/freezer, a 5-burner gas stove, and a hot air/grill/microwave oven, a dining/living room with wood-burning stove and a bathroom with bath, shower, washbasin and WC.
The layout of the two bedrooms is as follows, room 1: double bed (1.40-1.90m) and room 2: two single beds (0.90-2.00m) (the single beds can also be made into a double bed (1.80 -2.00m)). Room 2 has a third bed (0.90-2.00m).
Bed linen can be provided. Duvets, pillows, blankets and tea and kitchen towels are plentiful. Please bring your own bath towels. There is a washing machine, as well as a DVD player, DVDs and books. The television has no channels and is only for watching DvDs.
The dining room's French doors open onto the terrace and garden at the back of the house. There are several places to sit outside, on the terrace by the house, under the lime tree in the shade or in the grass. In all places you have wide views over the valley and the mountains.
When the house is let as a gîte, there are no other guests in the property. French people live in the 2 houses around it permanently, the owner lives 500m away.

Surroundings
This gîte is part of a large former farm from 1840 called Les Granges. The farm and its barns now form a small hamlet with three households, one of which is the gîte. All around are meadows and mountains. However, there are no other holiday tenants during your stay, only permanent French residents. The garden surrounding the gîte is not enclosed but private to the gîte.
Les Granges is on the outskirts of Bouvières, a small village in the Drôme and is located 500 m from the village, on a cul-de-sac used only by a few walkers or by the neighbours of the hamlet. It has unobstructed views all around, with the Pre-Alps visible in the distance. The colourful lavender and sunflower fields, the mountain streams and the spectacular gorges make this region so special. Besides hiking, the area around Bouvières is also very suitable for cyclists who want to make day trips and of course, the Mont Ventoux at 45km.

Reviews
Lizzy from Doorn,
Fleur from Voorschoten,
Yvonne from Amsterdam,
Restaurants, food & wine
There are beautiful old villages and towns to visit in the Bouvières area. To the north you will find the villages of Bourdeaux, Dieulefit, Saou and Crest with their many markets, restaurants and cafés. In Saou, classical concerts are regularly given on the village square during the month of July. Crest is especially known for the 52 metre high Donjon, the highest in France. From the roof, you have a beautiful view over the region. The medieval streets, restaurants and the market on Saturday morning make Crest very worthwhile. The Picodon is a goat cheese from the Drôme. In Dieulefit, there is the Fêtes du Picodon on the second Sunday of August. Valence and the nougat city Montélimar are also worth a visit.
When you drive south from Bouvières, you will soon find yourself in the heart of wine regions such as Côtes du Rhône and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Nyons, half an hour's drive from Bouvières has a medieval town centre and a Roman bridge 'Pont Roman' over the river Eygues. Nyons is the centre of olive production, the market on Thursday mornings is very well known in the area with many local products such as olive oil, honey, cheese, lavender etc..
Activities
Walking and cycling
Directly from the house but also in the surrounding area, there are plenty of walks and cycling tours through the mountains and along the many vineyards and lavender fields. Bicycle and hiking maps are available in the house, as well as two mountain bikes.
For children, there is plenty to do in the Drôme. Apart from swimming, you can fish, canoe, mountain climb, via ferrata, donkey ride and much more. But there is also plenty to do at the gîte 'Les Granges'. You can build dams in the river, make your own hut, search for fossils.......
Swimming
Near Cornillac, 25km from Bouvières, besides a small lake (Plan d'eau) with a small beach, there is also a beautiful river deep into the gorge. But also near the house, in the many small rivers you can paddle and swim. There are public swimming pools in Dieulefit, Bourdeaux, Crest and Nyons. There are a number of campsites and restaurants a short distance away where swimming is also allowed during lunch.

Further remarks
In the village of Bouvières there is a small grocery shop where you can buy fresh bread every day, as well as a bar and a restaurant.
The organic farm, about 400 m from Bouvières, has a small shop selling vegetables, goat's cheese, honey and other local produce.
