The house
La Peyratte has been family-owned for over 50 years and the next generation has now taken over. The house's fantastic location and surroundings were ideal but the layout and furnishings no longer met today's requirements. We wanted a comfortable holiday home where you could easily stay with one or two families as well as just the two of us. In recent years, we have thoroughly renovated and rearranged our house inside and out. The furnishing is not like many rental houses but is a collection of brocante furniture, old family heirlooms and comfortable beds with thick mattresses.
The house is really built on the mountain and therefore has only a small point on the road side and an extra floor on the valley side. A large, dark indoor stable has been converted into a living kitchen with a ridge height of over 5 metres. The kitchen is equipped with a freestanding 5-burner stainless steel gas cooker, a large fridge-freezer and a dishwasher. There is a large farm table, an old sideboard and there are French doors to the large covered veranda that opens onto the terrace. Under the veranda there is a dining table and a lovely lounge area. The terrace is sunny all day and has sublime views over the valley! At the back of the kitchen is a bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. Directly behind it is a lovely bedroom with its own terrace. From the kitchen is a passage to the living room with a double sofa bed, a lovely fireplace and beautiful views of the valley. Above this is a spacious mezzanine with two single beds. Behind the living room are two bedrooms one above the other as well as a separate toilet and the main bathroom with a bathtub on legs, separate shower, washbasin, extra toilet and beautiful tiled floor. The master bedroom upstairs is very bright and high and equipped with a double bed (1.80x2.00), built-in wardrobes and a wooden floor. Below this bedroom is the second spacious bedroom with double bed (1.80x2.00) and terra-tiled floor, cupboard space, own washbasin and French doors to a private terrace at the front of the house. Next to it is the children's room; a spacious bedroom with 2 beautiful black iron beds (approx. 1.90 long) and wardrobe space. This room also has its own door to the outside.
Next to the house, we have leveled a large area where a swimming pool has been built. We chose a biological pool, also called a swimming pond, with all-natural filtration by special plants (lissen). So no chlorine! The swimming area is 4.5m x 9m and 1.5m deep and is completely separated from the plant area so you don't swim among the plants. The water is crystal clear, you can see right to the bottom! Of course, the pool is safely enclosed with a beautiful custom-made wrought-iron fence with child-proof fasteners. Curious? Feel free to call or email us for more information!

Surroundings
Fully detached, tastefully renovated stone farmhouse with swimming pool (9mx4.5m) on a continuous dirt road, panoramic views over the river valley (the Eyrieux) and the Rhone valley in the distance. Amidst 100 ha of hilly land, many woods and ideal walking and cycling area. Around the bend in the road starts an area with a special butterfly population. The village of Vernoux is about 10 km away (20 min by car) with a nice little square and an Intermarché supermarket. There are some tourists there but otherwise it is a rarity if a car or walkers pass by the house.

Reviews
Familie Rustman from Haarlem,
Wat een fan-tas-tische plek! Uren turen naar de veranderende lucht, het uitzicht, de stilte, het smaakvol ingerichte huis, het heerlijk terras, het verkoelende zwembad. Echt een droom!
Ouds from Voorburg,
Bijzondere plek, in the middle of nowhere. Mooi huis.
ben Caminada from leende,
Wat hebben jullie er een paleisje van gemaakt. Mijn complimenten.
Restaurants, food & wine
On Thursdays, there is a farmers' market in Vernoux where you can buy delicious home-made saucisson, cheeses, garlic, vegetables, fruit, honey and jam, as well as other Ardèche specialities. Also in the other surrounding villages are weekly markets.
Activities
To enjoy La Peyratte you must love peace and quiet, nature and if you do want to be active, you can go for great bike rides or beautiful walks. Down in the valley is Aqua Rock with all kinds of activities in and around the river including canoeing and adventurous tree climbing routes! There are also many caves in the vicinity.
A must is a visit to le Palais Idéal of le Facteur Cheval, a French postman from the beginning of the last century who is compared to Gaudi and single-handedly built a fairy-tale town in Hauterives, 20 km east of St Vallier sur Rhône.

Further remarks
Definitely not a house for people looking for company or who feel happy in holiday parks. The house has been in the family for over 50 years and we consider it a privilege to have brought it back to its original state with the addition of modern comforts.
